What are the step-parent step-child boundries? Should step parents discipline, take on special outtings, style hair Ect?
I styled hair but one day her mom texted hubby complaining and said someone cut her hair 😱.. umm really.. my sister out extensions in her hair. I was so pissed because she would never do that. Her daughters hair was breaking off from the perm and neglect. No treatments and would perm her entire head each time. Then wait to long when it grew out and would break her hair. His daughter just turned 8. I'm like nope never again. What ever style she comes with she leaves with @proudmommyoftwo_
@proudmommyoftwo_ it was like a bad Lifetime movie but the movie was my life. I had no choice but to learn from this. And become a better mother. If i didn't do that it would have destroyed me. I took this time to get myself together and now I'm in a way better place mentally. So in the end it was for the best but it was not my ideal situation. The universe throws obstacles and loss at us to build up our strength. I believe everything happens for a reason. That bad leads and good follows. So that's what gets me through this is knowing there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
@believeinbuddha Girl you just sent shivers down my spine the thought of losing my kids girl idk what i would do watching my cousin suffer through it I cant even imagine she cries every single day man like you are sooo strong man omg
@proudmommyoftwo_ yeah that's really sad. You honestly get PTSD from those situations. It's hard not to spiral downward. I had mine removed from me when my daughter broke her arm and my ex said my husband did it on purpose. When cps showed up at my house I was rude to them and they didn't like that so they took my kids. I have barely seen them in a year... Our house wasn't dirty, we had plenty of food, there was power and water, my kids had hundreds of toys, they were happy and still were taken from my care. Because I didn't cooperate with their investigation so they made up a reason to take my kids and I am finally going back to court in December to see if I can get them back. I will always be scared for the rest of my life now. Its hard not to feel like a failure as a mom when that happens. 😳
@believeinbuddha Trust me I seen it happen my cousin lost her kids from CPS somebody called and reported her because they seen her in her kids in the house with no electricity she was trying to get the money to pay her light bill girl my cousin aint been right every since 😭😭
@proudmommyoftwo_ everyone should worry about them now days. Someone can report you to them from a social media post they see. It happens more often than you think I just want to tell you this so you know and you're careful. Most people don't realize that cps has more power than cops in a lot of situations. They can remove your child and just make something up for a reason.. 😖
@proudmommyoftwo_ glad you don't have to worry about what?
@believeinbuddha Oh glad i dont have to worry about that lol
I also don't believe that discipline is beating kids though.
I believe, if you want that person to fully accept, love, and care for your child as their own, they should be allowed to do everything as their biological parent does. Some step parents have raised a baby that wasn't theirs from birth or a very young age and that step parent is all the kid knows. I feel this way if both parents aren't involved though. Like if a woman is married to a man, other than the child's father, and the biological father isn't present at all. Then step dad basically is raising the kid as his own and should be able to be involved in everything that comes with being a dad. Because in my eyes, he is that child's father. Now, If the kid has both biological parents in their life, then step parent definitely has many boundaries.
@proudmommyoftwo_ I just know the effects that hurting a child has on them. You might see it as a whooping but they see it as trust being lost. Studies have shown that exposure to pain changes the way that a child's brain is hardwired. It literally changes who they are. So the more you spank them the more you are making them insecure, scared, and you're showing them that hitting is ok when someone makes you mad. All of it is just wrong.. Even a biological parent shouldn't do that. That's why its called corporal punishment now and cps can take your kids away from you in certain situations JUST because you "discipline" them with your hands.
@believeinbuddha True everyone has their own method of parenting i dont beat my kids either unless they really really step out of line and they hardly do that unless we in public 🙄🙄 then that's when i have to pop her because my oldest act like she don't have no home training in public lol
@proudmommyoftwo_ what bothered me was when my husband and I were dating he would just tell me to whoop my kids when they misbehaved. Because he didn't want to do it. So I would tell him I didn't believe in parenting that way. And we fought a lot over that because I believed in talking to them and timeouts rather than spankings and stuff.
@believeinbuddha Right because in some situations the step parent be all the child may know especially if that other parent is missing from their life but i agree with you lol dont put your hands on my kids lol
@beebaby Oh nah this isnt speaking on my behalf generally speaking lol
And I feel like other than physical discipline and bathing a step parent should do everything a biological parent does. 💜
I believe that you discipline a child with words. Not with hands. So as long as the step parent knows how to verbally communicate with the child and keep their temper under control then I don't see a problem with having parenting be a team thing.
Another post got me thinking..
For those with 'step-parents'..
Do you think step parents should be allowed to spank step children?
What do YOU judge
Clearly, no one is a perfect parent nor do we know everything. But what’s something you judge a parent off of or just irks you?
"Child support is for absent parents NOT failed relationships"
Ugh! So frustrating being a step parent sometime....not having any say :/
Yup it's not just the children it's the mom's 😬... My hubby wasn't exactly a great dude back in the day.. so I'm sure baby mamas aren't fond of me. Because what makes me special for him to settle down get married stop clubbing etc.. im no different or have special powers I love myself enough to walk away and he is very aware. I stated my rules from the beginning to have a solid foundation and if he wants a marriage to built on sand then let's get a divorce and cut our losses it's that simple. @proudmommyoftwo_
