What are your views on baby showers when the mother has ALREADY had a shower within three years before?
I've been asked to throw a baby shower for a friend that I'm not super close with, but she has like zero friends. This is her second child in 3 years. I'm really into etiquette and I think it's completely and totally tacky and kind of trashy to have a full blown baby shower when your previous shower was less than five years ago. Different gender included.
I have mention throwing a sprinkle instead. Donut themed. Complete a donut wall. It would be Pinterest worthy. She doesn't care the theme - but I promise it's be perfect. I love throwing parties. But, I think it's horrible to register again when your previous child is only 3 years old. And, this is the same gender! I took a peek at her registry and she's registered for all the big stuff again.
And then she's wanting to invite 100 people like her first shower. I don't know, I just don't want to be linked to something so greedy. I haven't really told her "yes" or "no" and I think I'm going to have to pass.
Like I said - I'm huge on proper etiquette. I just think a small sprinkle - not registered - would be best that way nobody judges her. We would do a diaper raffle, And, everyone could bring small gifts if they please.
I recently went to a baby shower of a girl who had two showers for the same gender in the last five years and people are STILL commenting to this day about how weird and greedy it was.
What do you think? I feel bad because, like I said, she doesn't really have any friends, but, I know I'm not the only one who thinks it's greedy.
(AGAIN. This is not meant to be offensive- I know many people don't follow etiquette like I do.)

Was she planning on having another one? I got rid of EVERYTHING my daughter outgrew, including big items, because I thought I was 100% sure I was one and done... but here I am trying to get pregnant again.
If she is just wanting brand new stuff, I think that is selfish. Had I known I would be thinking of more children, I would have kept alot of the baby stuff..

@kelseyp16, I was so nice when she was telling me how she was going to register, and I said "oh I have so much stuff left from my daughter." Just to see what she'd say... she said", yeah, I kind of do, but it's all so dated.". It's only been three years! And then she said she didn't like the way the handle on the stroller rubbed against her hands. Ugh. I just feel like, because of stupid reasons like that, that she should just purchase these things herself.

I personally would never ask for another baby shower. If I went to have another one, we wound buy whatever stuff we would need. The way she is wanting to invite all these people sounds very selfish!

@bodaciousb, do a sprinkle! I also loveeee the idea of umbrellas and rainbows theme for a sprinkle. 🌈🌧❤️

@bodaciousb, @scarapella1, exactly! I feel like it's totally okay to have another party. Just not as large as a wedding, and don't ask for gifts again. Same with like getting married a second time. You're not supposed to ask for gifts the second time around. Definitely celebrate the new little one(s)! They are every bit as wanted and precious and the siblings before them, but there is only so many times you can ask for free large gifts without seeming greedy.

I don't think ur wrong not to be rude or judgmental or anything but if she is wanting a shower to be able to get brand new stuff that's different from being in need in my opinion I mean everyone's family and friends situations are different but there is groups and organizations for getting free baby things or at least getting help with things like birth n beyond does things iv heard like take a car seat safety class for a couple hours n u get to take home a brand new car seat. Or fb groups have a lot of free groups or once upon a child or places similar are good places to get nice but cheaper then new stuff I think if she's truly in need maby she would be OK with not all brand new.

Sooo I had a baby shower with Aarem. Didn't even know registries were a "thing". Invited maybe 30 people, 15ish showed up. I made the best of it. Got a lot of little things and didn't really need much. I didn't rely on anyone buying me big ticket items and I was happy with hand me downs.
With Oliver I wanted to have a baby shower even though, ya know, same gender, 4 years apart but I didn't save much from when Aarem was a baby because I was only going to have one kid and be done forever! (So much for that! 😭). I think second baby showers are okay, but they can't be extravagant. Why doesn't she do like a baby meet and greet after baby is born where friends and family can bring gifts or something??

There is no way I would associate myself with this.. or with her. Of course I don't know either of you, but I feel like she'd be the type to expect a lot from you if you do this -- kind of like a mom-to-be version of a bridezilla with you being the maid of honor & then possibly not having your "duties" ending after the shower comes & goes, especially if not many people show up.
You mentioned more than once that she really doesn't have any friends, so it seems like she'd be setting herself up for disappointment by inviting 100 people, unless she has an extremely large family. Do you know the people she's wanting to invite? I'm curious if she based her guest list on who she thought would be most likely to buy more expensive gifts. I just can't wrap my head around someone, who doesn't even have one good friend, thinking that there are 100 people who would want to celebrate her 2nd baby's birth. That's beyond selfish & tacky, but she seems aware of this & the gifts/attention must be worth it to her.
I have a much easier & cheaper solution to her stroller handle issue. There are covers in all shapes & sizes (even listing which stroller models they fit) that I found on Amazon & they're very comfy & stylish! 😉

@bamaprincess05, you're absolutely right! The guest list is all her & his family. His friends, and mostly people she works with. She even said more than once, "I know the work girls always like to just chip in for one larger gift, so I really hope they do the mama roo". And then another time said, "I hope they all chip in for the play yard / pack & play. ", so that there is proving she really is just after gifts. You're right though- I need to just decline. She says she had like four or five other girl friends (outside of work), but I'm not really so sure

If it would be for the same gender idk. If it's so close together I don't feel like a big shower is nexessary. Something small maybe. But even then. I'm saving all the stuff from my daughter just in case second baby comes out a girl again.

I had a baby shower for my daughter last year..and this year I was hesitant to throw one for my son because my babies are 11 months apart. It was smaller this time around it only made 20 invites. For both shower, no one offered to help and by that I don't mean money wise( we figured it out and made it happen)..just lending me a hand for small details..I'm very crafty so I like to do the decor myself. I know you don't mean to offend anyone and I'm not offended. But This is why I didn't ask anyone to throw me a baby shower or would of even allowed anyone to throw me one. Regardless people are going to talk..you can't make everyone happy. I personally wouldn't of had another if it would of been another girl, I still have lots of her stuff.. waiting on family/ friend to have a girl to give too. Everyone is different, a little help from friends and family wouldn't hurt when it comes to gifts/necessities. But She just sounds like she wants the most expensive of everything...and isn't being greatful that your even considering doing something for her.

I agree I think a sprinkle is so much more appropriate. I do think that every baby should be celebrated no matter what, but a full blown shower isn't necessary. The only things we plan on needing for our second this February is a double stroller (bc our first will only be 20 months when Two is born) and more cloth diapers. We also plan on purchasing those things ourselves.
