Hey everyone! My name is Vanessa Ward and I am a first time mom! I gave birth in April 2017 and am enjoying my little guy but also struggling, mostly with sleep. Hoping to connect with moms in similar situations to trade tips and tricks.

Congratulations, my little girl is an april baby too. I do kinda struggle because she likes to be rocked. I always have the tv on, letting her face all the pretty colors as I rock her to sleep. And if tv is off, as you lay down, have him lay on one arm, and either you rock with him or just him. Feeling you close to him brings comfort when falling asleep since they are used to being inside. Think of it as a stronger bonding time for both you and baby. My little girl is used to being rocked in my arm as I lay down. She doesn't always need a pacifier or a bottle. There are times she's content with falling asleep without the need of suckling on something

@j_erin he sometimes sleeps without suckling but will only stay asleep on my chest. So almost every night I end up sleeping on the recliner in the nursery. We are working on bedtime routine, I use white noise, and we have tried the drowsy but awake thing to no avail. Hoping he will learn to self soothe on his own because this is putting strain on my marriage and I know you're not supposed to sleep in a recliner with baby...

Thanks for the kind words though!

@gwen9888, I know some people don't choose to do-sleep and if you chose not to that's okay and I'm not trying to be one of those moms that seems to force things on another but co-sleeping has literally saved me. I'm terrified to let my baby sleep in her room so I brought her crib into mine and put it literally up against my bed so she's completely at arms reach but I also have my space. She sleeps so good being close to me and I can actually sleep since I'm not as worried and she's sleeping good. Maybe if something doesn't work for you soon you could try something like that. Best of luck I really hope your little and you get the sleep you both need soon!

@caseyann19 thanks! We tried that but all his little noises keep me awake if he's in the same room :/ and my husband is the only one who works and it was affecting his sleep as well. We moved him to the nursery at about 5 weeks. He was doing ok (sleeping a couple hours at a time) but now we cant even leave him for 10 minutes vefore he's up crying. Hoping it passes soon.

I put his rocker bed from the pack n play and put it in his crib and he just slept for a little over 4 hours! Hopefully it wasnt a fluke! Maybe the crib was still just too much space for him to handle yet... But the rocker is only rated to 15lbs I think so he'll outgrow it before long. Hopefully not before we can start sleep training though. Lucky for me he's on the smaller side. Just hit 12lbs around 10 weeks.
