Moms,
Today we have a new chat with @smilingwithmyawesome4kids on Children with Special Needs.
Hello I am Ceiamaria, I have been happily married for 12 years and still going strong 💪. We have 2 special needs sons that require all our attention all the time. Ty Ty, is 8 years old he has OCD OCC bipolar ADHD schizophrenic and epilepsy autism speech disabilities learning disabilities . Dan Dan, is 7 years old he has mood disorder autism speech disabilities learning disabilities ADHD mood disorder. Both boys have IEPs attend speech therapy every week and both boys see a therapist. It's not Easy having special needs children . But we wouldn't change being their parents for nothing in this world. It's a challenge we accept with open arms 🤗.
Tips for a special needs child
1.) Speech disabilities is not Easy to recognize but if your child isn't speaking by 2 years old consult with your children's pediatrician
2.) Be patience
3.) Once your child is in school make sure they have a IEP and make sure the school is following the IEP
4.) Realize your child doesn't they are different make them realize that they are awesome.
5.) Realize before a IEP is in place the school will blame on a behavior issue.
6.) Attend the speech therapy
7.) Attend the IEP meetings .
8.) Read the entire IEP packet don't just sign it.
6.) Speak with their teachers regularly
7.) Teach your children they are Amazing
Please post your replies, questions and comments below. And @smilingwithmyawesome4kids will try to help. She also has a Kids with Special Needs group in the app!
What age were they when you learned they were special needs children?
Do you (the parents) also have mental health issues? Or is their a genetic link?
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids it took me 4 years to prove everybody that my son has autism because his doctor and dad wouldnt believe me. Now he is 5, he has ABA and honestly they dont really help him. He is doing worse than before🙁
Awww thank you love 🤗😘 @withlovedkj I really appreciate that it's definitely not easy but it's totally worth it I love my kiddos
You've given some very good advice! I have a special needs brother and it is very important for parents to be educated on their child's needs, rights and the services offered to them for support! Having special needs children require so much more effort as a parent. Just know that you are awesome and your children are lucky to have parents like you and your husband to care and love for them! 💕 @smilingwithmyawesome4kids,
Im having the hardes time with my son :( i feel like i have done everything wrong.
It can be difficult at times but I cry and keep going because I have to!
Just be the best you can and remember that God doesn't put more on us then we can handle. I mean he chose us to be their parents he knows we have the super powers
I couldn't agree more @jcjackson83 I never was in denial when they were both diagnosed with having special needs . I started doing research trying to find out .
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids, I totally agree some don't want except it because they feel their child/children will be treated differently but we as parents with special need children have to understand it not about us it's about the child who needs help.
I offer kids with special needs on here @jcjackson83 and yes your absolutely right early inventions does help. But many parents don't want to accept they have a special need child.
Special need children aren't dumb at all they just learn at a different pace and not one special need child is the same @mommieof2babies
I understand it can be @mommieof2babies but keep your head up and remember God choose you to be her mother be her voice
Many mothers don't read through the entire packet but I do I read every page and I also send a note what I don't agree with that's great that your mother did that @blue_jay1418
@scurlock.mommy Ty was 18 months and Dan Dan was 10 1/2 months when they were put on the autism spectrum . If you are noticing Red flags contact her pediatrician and have a evaluation done early detection is the best
I'm a mom to 3 kids and my middle child. He is 6 and he had apraxia and adha. He does speech 4 times a week and physical therapy and OT twice a week.
But she goes to a school with a iep course but she is so smart even though she has disabilities im so proud of her @
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids girl my daughter has learning disability an speech disability its sometimes so hard
I don't have a mental disability but I do have a physical disability. My disability causes me to be in a wheelchair permanently and I can say that when I was in school that my IEP was a very important part of me being successful in school. More so when I was younger and learning how to do things on my own. My mom always read through my IEP and made sure I understood what I was getting. She also took out the stuff that she thought I didn't need.
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids how old were your children when they were put on the spectrum? My 11 month old and I've noticed a few red flags. I have a few family members on the spectrum, so I know of what to look for, but I'm not sure when the line is drawn between a possible symptom and just baby behavior (if that makes sense lol).
Special Need children are very expensive both of my sons are on expensive medicine @mermaidmeshy
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids we knew when we found out she had the cleft it's a $2,000 test, but with my husband's family history, we know. It would be a waste of money to find out what we already know.
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids, I will get on that right away thank you love ❤️😊
@puertorianmommyof3 request a evaluation with his pediatrician this will get the school moving in the same direction. Also request a meeting with the school board tell them your concerns and let them know that his pediatrician ordered a evaluation this will get them moving in the right direction
I'm very high up there on the AS scale. As you can see I have two boys,I'm married. I can also drive. In some ways it doesn't bother me, but in other ways it does (i.e. Insurance companies). I keep to myself, sometimes I'm shy but I can be outgoing. Thanks so much for you complement. It means a lot.
She's absolutely beautiful 😍😍😍 @mermaidmeshy it's good that you got it early
Don't be ashamed @emc1982 ignorant individuals make fun of special needs. You have realize your Awesome and their name calling doesn't matter
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids, 😂😂it always seems to work out that way! And of course 💙💙 they make us complete. It helps you appreciate the little things in life 😘
It's definitely not easy but I wouldn't change being there Mother for nothing in this world thank you 🤗 @victoria_rodriguez93
Yes it is a challenge @kailey.gallentine and the crazy schedules is it very hectic. Today both boys had speech one had speech therapy at 8am and the other 10am yes 2 hours apart they Mommed me insane. But I absolutely love my kiddos
Our little one will have some different special needs because of a fairly unknown syndrome called Sticklers. She'll have to wear glasses, we hope her retinas don't detach, but they could. She also has a cleft soft palate, a secondary issue that happens with Sticklers Syndrome. She'll need speach therapy, and she also decided that 7 weeks early was best for her! 😉
I don't usually talk about my disability. I think of it as a burden that if I told somebody that they would make fun of me. I have AS (asperger's syndrome). I was diagnosed at the age of 25. My younger sister has autism.
Oh man I live for these posts! I work with special needs children and I can only imagine how difficult it can be to manage sometimes; but yet gratifying to see when the child progresses in a new skill that child has been working on for so long, it's truly an amazing thing. I'm hoping to be a special needs teacher, with the grace of God I'll be able to obtain my masters with special education so I'm just praying for it. Thank for you being a dedicated mom to your boys, we need more people in general just like you!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️@smilingwithmyawesome4kids
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids, yes! It's so wild how strong they are with such crazy schedules! IEPs, OT, PT, ST. Everything under the sun and they still manage to keep on truckin. A lot of it is because people are unaware. Not necessarily uneducated but they just don't know until they experience it first hand. Props to you mama! Two boys is enough work 😂😘💙💙
You're welcome 🤗@kailey.gallentine having 2 special needs sons is very challenging with appointments therapy and IEP meetings it can be hectic. Many people blame special needs on a behavior issue which it's not.
and now thanks to her i got the education and the brains to teach my kids... but if only i had a better life partner
my mom had to go through this with me so i know.... i have left hemiplegia... ppl said that she is a strong woman because some women in our culture just abandon children like us
I am SO ecstatic that this is finally a chat! My little sister is special needs and this is our life! Thank you mama! Bringing awareness 🙌🏻
It's my pleasure to have the opportunity to tell about my experience with special needs children.
