Honest question

Have you ever accidentally locked your child in a car? I mean like honestly didn't realize you locked them in.

I was at the hospital in the parking lot I put my son in the car and s*** the door. Threw my keys in the front seat (like an idiot) and shut the front door so I could smoke (i know.... Its bad for me) my car spazed and it locked all the doors! It wasn't even on, the keys weren't in the ignition or anything. I called my mom bawling and she called the hospital and they said they couldn't do anything because I had to come in (leave my baby alone in the car) and tell them what happened! They couldn't even send someone around in a patrol car to search the parking lot. Thankfully my brother in law got there quick and unlocked my car. It was cool out and my baby was calm as can be. I was ugly crying so hard. I never ever leave my keys in the car now. I always make sure I have them in my hand or purse before I leave the car.

Lmao ... How did your mom lock you in the trunk? lol

Yes ?scariest moment of my life. I put my son in my jeep & closed the door to go put the stroller in the back. But the doors automatically locked on me once I shut them. It's a good thing my vehicle was on with the AC. I called my MIL to grab my spare set of keys which only took a few minutes.

I had a few people ask me if I needed help as well.

Нравится Ответить

I did. But it was more of I loaded him in and my keys fell out of my hand into the seat. Didn't realise it until I shut the doors and couldn't get them open. Called the cops immediately while my hubby waited for them by the car. (We had just finished loading groceries and it was pouring down rain) I cried and cried. We have a new car so they almost couldn't get the door pryed open. Luckily they did and our little guy had decided to take a nap haha!

I'm super duper paranoid about this so in the summers I always open the all the car windows before putting my boys in their car seats. In the winter I always leave two doors open and open my window too. Lol! Better safe than sorry I guess. Just takes forever. I have locked us out of the house, but we were going out anyway so we went to pick up spare from in-laws.

I did once, but it wasn't to bad because we just pulled into our apartments and my DH pulled in after. He just went and got the key. I went to unlock the door but locked it instead and shut the door. DS just sat there staring at me through the window lol

My mom did that once with my little sister. I was at school and our doors would automatically lock. I barely remember but it was a hot day and my mom didn't waste a second and broke a window. On a hot summer day like that she wasn't going to take her chances. The car was already hot as is so she reacted quickly.

I thought I did the other day. I was driving home and this dog was running around on a very busy road so I pulled off to a safe place and called animal control because no one could catch this dog and I opened my door and was talking to one of the others who were helping try to get the dog off the road and my door closed and i turned around and saw it was locked and I started freaking out and I looked at the back door and it was thankfully unlocked! I had a mini heart attack for a minute. Ds was sleeping in the back.

I think plenty of people are reading this post as "forgot your child in the car" when you meant "locked your child in the car". Totally 2 different things.

Нравится Ответить

Yeah. I dropped my phone in the car and stood up and the door shut. Running. In december. I started screaming and banging on the window (as if that would help). Someone driving by stopped as fast as possible and let me call 911. The police came in like 45 seconds and opened the door no issue.

Нравится Ответить

Never in my life have I forgot my child anywhere.

Нравится Ответить

Nope nope no. Seriously, no.

Нравится Ответить

No. One door of the car Is always open before I close their doors.

My husband thinks I'm crazy and likes to mess with me about this but at least I know my kids will never be locked in.

Нравится Ответить

Hell No!!!

Нравится Ответить

I haven't but my mom locked me in the trunk of her car when I was 17 ? I had the keys with me and there was no trunk release. I was in there for almost half an hour before she remembered she had a spare key ?

Нравится Ответить

My little butthead son had my keys. I put him in the car seat and go walk around and he pushes the lock button. So I'm looking at him he was 1 and asked him to hit the unlock button. Well I'm standing in the pouring rain for 20 minutes while he pushes every button but the lock one. I had my hubby on the phone and he was laughing so hard I was furious. He never was allowed to hold my keys again lol

Uh no.

Нравится Ответить

Oh I didn't understand the post . Haha but no I have never locked them in I always take the keys with me or I roll a window down to make sure the car doesn't lock itself. Hahaha. My husbands car locked itself once and I get scared that will happen to me so I always roll a window down far enough for my arm to fit thru. I don't like my kids in the hot so usually I leave the car on with the ac and leave a window open if I need to run back inside the house really quick.

Нравится Ответить

No lol I forget my purse or phone though. Never forgot my kids haha.

I've locked ds1 in my truck when he was little, more then once ? I now have a spare key that is hidden on the outside of my vehicle at all times. So far haven't done it with ds2 but now ds1 is old enough to unlock the doors if I ever did.

Нравится Ответить

Never. I keep my keys on a lanyard and the lanyard doesn't come off from around my neck until I am putting them in the ignition. I am way too forgetful, so I don't trust myself to keep them in a purse/pocket/etc.

Нравится Ответить

I didn't lock it the kid did! My niece was two reached over and hit the lock button. The unlock button didn't work! It had been busted for a while. I panicked. It was summer and the car was off so no AC.

Had no phone at the time so I grabbed a random stranger (we were at the store) and told them I needed something to break the window! I grabbed the right person! He was a tow truck driver who had a lock out kit. Soon as I told him she was in there he took 5 minutes to get her out free of charge. I called his company and sang his praises to every manager that would listen!

I locked my daughter in the car, but by accident. I open the back door, put my bag and keys next to her to get the stroller out of the trunk when the wind blew the door shut. I freaked out! Luckily the weather was nice, but my phone was inside my bag so I had to ask people around me to let me use their phones. So was there within 15 minutes.

My so did once randomly and locked the key in the car with our first baby. we didn't have a spare set so he smashed part of a window.

Нравится Ответить

I haven't. But one time my dad was bringing dd (about 11 months) back to my house. At the time, she loved to play with keys and my dad was a sucker so he was letting her play with them. He put her in the car seat and shut the door. She still had the keys and hit the lock button. Luckily a minute later she also hit the button to pop the glass latch of the trunk. My 65 year old dad had to crawl through the glass hatch to get in and get the keys!

I didn't think it would happened to me because I either carry my phone or my keys but I was in such a rush. I started it with my keyfob and it automatically locks the door when you do that. I put him in and stupidly threw my keys in before I shut the door not realizing it was locked. Of course my phone was in there too. And no one was driving by that I could flag down. I had to run so fast up the street to where my grandma works because she has my spare key but she wasn't even there. I finally got ahold of onstar and had them unlock it and ran back. Of course my son was just as happy as he could be and I think he was even asleep but it still scared the life out of me. I'm definitely making sure it's always unlocked now or I can at least get in somehow.

Нравится Ответить

Nope. My car won't lock unless it's either in drive or the key isn't in it. Plus I always leave the door open until I get in.

Нравится Ответить

I did. I put my youngest in and threw the keys in the front before I buckled him. I shut the door to his side and walked my oldest to his side and the door was locked! I freaked! Luckily so was right down the street and came quickly

Нравится Ответить

No but I'm always nervous it will happen!!!! I always make sure my keys are in my hand when getting in and out of the car because I can see how easily it happens!!!!

Нравится Ответить

Not in the car but ds did lock my mom out of the house, while he was still inside, when she was watching him one day.

Нравится Ответить

I did 2 weeks ago. It was pouring rain out and I was putting my 2.5 y/o and 9 month old into the car at their daycare. I put my toddler in first and closed the door without buckling him. I just wanted him out of the rain as I buckled the baby up. So I buckle the baby up, toddler goes into the drivers seat and presses the lock button as I close the door. Keys were in the diaper bag in the car. I tried convincing my toddler to press the unlock button but he just sat there and drank his juice box pointing at various things around me like "oh look! A garbage can! Look! A tree!". I had to call the police and they came a few minutes later and unlocked it.

Нравится Ответить

Never. If my son is in the car, I leave the door open until I get in.

Нравится Ответить

I did this once. I left my car running in the driveway. My brother was standing in the doorway watching the car for me. I went in grabbed what I needed. Went back out tried to open the door realized it was locked. Had to spend ten minutes looking for my extra key my kids had lost.

Нравится Ответить

I haven't but I have had to have my dh unlock the door when HE has locked her in. I'm at the back door trying to open it and she's just in her seat like what's wrong mommy. Lol. We never have left her and I never forget she's in the back. I'm constantly looking at her.

Нравится Ответить

I'm terrified of it happening (when baby comes). If I unlock the car with the remote and don't open one of the front doors within a certain time, they automatically lock again. I'm thinking about carrying an extra key with me just in case

Нравится Ответить

Yup, with my phone! Luckily it wasn't hot. I ran to my neighbors and called 911. He was out in less then 10 minutes.

Нравится Ответить

We were loading up the car while still in the garage and had already put ds2 in his car seat. We started the car because it was chilly out (garage door open, obviously), and he reached over and locked the doors from his car seat. It took a terrifying 10 minutes to get him to unlock the doors.

Нравится Ответить

Did not lock her in, but had a worst experience, I forgot my youngest in the car for a full 10 minutes. I got home parked in the garage like I always do, the kids got out we went inside. Their dad even said hi to us he was standing right in front of the door taking his laundry out.. I went straight to the kitchen to start dinner, but once I took the meat out something told me to go check on the kids, the baby was no where to be found, I got so scared. Thought I forgot her somewhere or she had walked out.. I ran into the garage to check on the car and there she was sound asleep.. Lucky for me it was winter and I always have the back of the van windows open, the ones that open to the side.. Huge life lesson..

Нравится Ответить

Never. Y because when I put my child in the car, I roll down the driver window half way n I will put away my groceries or whatever needs to b put in the trunk. I always think of what if moments.

Нравится Ответить

Never.

Yes, it was summer time and I had a junk car so the ac didn't work but if I blasted the "ac" the fan would make the heat bearable. Anyways it was a 97 honda so the doors automatically locked when you turned the car on. So I turned the car on, loaded the groceries, loaded my son (he was like 9 months) and this is the first time I realized that the car locked when you started it (first car I bought with the little money I had at the time). Luckily he was only in there for 5 minutes because I called the cops and they come fast when you tell them you have a child locked in a car. It was an honest mistake. I started rolling down the window even to get out the car to go around and get my son, just to make sure I could get back in in case the doors locked again, come back to the driver side and lock up and go about our business.

Locking your doors

We are having a discussion on one of my birth boards from my older kids about locking doors and security alarms. There are many of us (me included) who do not lock our doors at home (I actually don't even have a deadbolt on my house and we don't lock it when we leave either), and others who think that's totally weird. So what do you do? Do you lock your doors? Do you think it's weird that people don't?

Always lock our doors. Seriously, you never know who is prowling outside no matter where you live
When you live in the country like I do, we really don't even think about locking our
