I had once asked about baby lead feeding or whatever it's called and never got a great answer and actually go into a disagreement. I have 6 kids but I allways did baby food and was scarred to death when it came to them choaking. I am older now and feel comfortable trying. I do feed her baby food but have added avacodos and now cooked carrots. I kinda mash them with a fork. Should I leave them into bigger pieces.? She also has a milk allergy so what else should I be trying with her and how?. Thanks. Sounds funny from a mom who already raised 5 kids but I do it know it all lol
Thanks @scurlock.mommy @mommysbabies I'll always take suggestions. If you think about it when your feeding your babies you can shoot me ideas. I know Casey is only 8 1/2 months old so we do baby food and mushed vigies but I want to be prepared and have some mom's on my list for go to advice
@deckroth2001 we did puffs, rice teething cookies, and yogurt drops with Isabelle first before we moved to baby led weaning. I think it helped in the sense of she already knew how to chew. And the teething cookies are long, so she knew how to take bites instead of stuffing everything into her mouth.
We did ravioli last night! I make my own so I can add what I want into it.
She's doing great with puffies and avacodos and Carrot's. I kinda go threw the veggies with a fork maybe I'll try chunkier stuff. She never choaks. Sometimes it gets too far back and she has to work it out but I'm not scarred by it. My last baby is 8 and choaked on everything and has asthma so food wasn't so fun. Thats why I'm really trying for a more pleasant meal time with my daughter.
Isabelle is 10 months and we're just now trying it. From what I've learned so far, pieces of food should be long and kinda skinny (like your index finger) and should be easy to mash between the gums. With baby food, the learn to swallow before they learn to chew, which can be a choking hazard when moving to solids. I would try with mushy foods first! When they learn their pincer grasp, you can move to smaller pieces, but don't make them too wide. I would start with things like bananas, avocados, pastas, steamed veggies.
A big thing is learning the difference between gagging and choking. Babies will sometimes gag on food as they're trying to move it around in their mouths. You should also know what to do if they do choke (baby Heimlich). It's also a good idea to be educated on baby cpr (that's good regardless of the situation).
Any kind of pasta as long as it's small bite-size pieces I know they recommend whole grain
Add eight months I would cut up pieces of bananas and avocados and cook carrots and give to my son also there's some dairy free cheeses and dairy free yogurt that you can try as well you can make your own yogurt bites with the dairy free yogurt just put it in a pipe bag or a Ziploc bag and just drop it onto a wax sheet and stick in freezer till solid then put in tupper wear and store in freezer till needed I also did it with regular baby food it helped with teething also you can do cooked pasta at 9m
I'm always home and I have insomnia due to my pregnancy just shoot me a message anytime I have some charts on my old phone I can try and get and send to you it's different foods to try and at what month to try I just have to charge it up
