Should I wake my baby to feed her? Does anyone have a feeding schedule and what is it like?

I was told to never wake a sleeping baby and it was the best advice ever! but if you think baby is down to long it's okay to wake em😊

@happy2haveu, I'm sorry, but there's a lot of bad info here that's really troubling and downright dangerous to your baby. It's okay to let your baby sleep for 4-5 hours after she has gained back her birth weight and established weight gain, but it's not at your discretion to let a 3 day old baby sleep for 6 hours or more. This is something you should talk to an expert about. Maybe @cubanese can offer some insight?

@happy2haveu, undress her, tickle her feet--I have even heard of some mom's putting a cool, damp washcloth on baby's back or tummy. If baby is warm and cozy it makes her drowsy--it may seem a bit cruel to wake her and make her uncomfortable, but it's for her own good.

After about the first 5 days, my son would start letting me know when he was hungry and I could feed on demand. It's like one day everything just changes lol.

Yeah every 3 hours and honestly I don't remember how much since I was nursing but when he took a bottle of pumped milk I think it was around an ounce or so at 3 days it could've been more but I don't remember :/

It's totally ur preference to wake ur baby at first I would let him sleep but he was sleeping long hours u can't assume a newborn will let u know when there ready to eat that's why it's important To wake them the babies that have Long hours sleeping lose weight .. when ur NB is over two weeks he will deff let u know when they are hungry remember NB are notorious for sleeping through feedings .. if they don't wake get a wet wipe and wipe there cheek or under neck ...

you aren't girl don't worry , 9 hours is awhile you could wake her up. I never let my son go past 6 hours. with them being that young they literally just sleep lol so it's normal. you're doing great don't stress 😊

I was told that you should wake at least every three hours if they don't on their own, until they have regained their birth weight. At that point you can switch to on-demand. I was also told that, like @nikilauren said, a diaper change was the best way to wake her to feed.

you don't have to wake her, when she's hungry she will wake up. I didn't wake my son & he never went longer than 4 or 5 hours, now he's a little over a month & I feed him whenever he's hungry, I let him sleep. and for the weight gain, my son already has gained almost 3 pounds since he's been born.

@nikilauren How much did he need to eat? And every 3 hours?

My son had the same problem, so I would start undressing him or give him a diaper change and then feed him. Otherwise, he would never wake up to eat during the first couple of days.

@ciraclesmiracle @dreeex What if my baby doesnt wake? I tried last night and all that happens is she cuddles and then drools on my boobs a little. She doesn't even open her mouth.

Wake every 2 hours or 3 to feed

My midwife told me that newborns should be woken if they sleep more than like 3 hours. They need to establish their weight gain and eat enough to reduce billirubin levels.

Never wake baby to eat. Baby will wake when their ready to eat. Promise they can't starve themselfs

personally with being a mom of 3 one 9 one 8 one 6 i never woke my kids to feed them. trust me they will wake up when they are hungry
