Pretty frustrating to find out my hospital told me to start pumping right away but now Im reading here and everyone is saying not to. Ive already had an over supply and have frozen over 3.5 gallons of milk on top of feedings.. I really dont want clogged ducts
@kenzieb, when u say "ur supply to come in" well baby makes that happen the pump will regulate your body to make more than what u need unless ur bottle feeding and not putting baby to breast. Well since u have already been pumping for so long if u have a good storage I would slowly wean off the pump but not completely. Just pump enough for what u need when ur working otherwise u will have to pump all the time and in the case that something comes up it will be a hassle to not be able to pump and u could be n pain
I wish i could wait. My babe is already 6 weeks and ive been doing it for that long already
If my babies weren't in the nicu, I'd wait 6-8 weeks before pumping. I had oversupply with my daughter and it was good for her but awful for me! I'd wait if I were you. I can't so I need to pump for them.
He is only 6 weeks old.. that's why I am so confused. My sister told me to pump right away as well. I will be going back to work soon but I haven't really needed a reason to pump besides they wanted me to get my supply in. But since i do have what i assume is an over supply he has been able to stay with daddy of grandma for longer periods because i don't have to be there to feed him
How old is your baby?@kenzieb, my breast feeding class taught me to pump at 8 weeks. Really u only need to pump if u have a reason u won't be with baby like working. Some moms never pump. I started pumping at 3m and I only did then bc I had a small cold and took over counter med that shrunk my supply for about 48hr so I had to pump to regain more milk. Now I try to pump 2-3 a week I pump while feeding and usually get 6oz from one boob. Sometimes I go up to 5days without pumping. Baby never had bottle I'm just making emergency stash in case I ever need it and also for boobie pops when summer gets here
@txyogagirl. That's what ivem been thinking. Im just really hoping i dont end up with clogged ducts! Thank you for the advice
