never gave my kids any. its just a bad habbit

I will not give my baby any. I have seen them hit the floor and people pick it up covered in dirt and hair and pop them back in the babies mouth. My nephews had gotten addicted to them and it took over a year to wean them off. My point though is. If I have to let someone watch the baby I don't want the icky hair thing happening. I also don't want the issue of having to take them away. I am not a fan of them. They are cute though.

I agree with them. but I would say by time baby is one. as all my kids took the pacifier except for my son. he needs never wanted it. we just wanted boobs. lol

My daughter sucked her thumb since the womb at 17 weeks we could see her thumb in her mouth. So it was a given for use she would take a pacifier. At a year we tried to take it away but she reverted to sucking her thumb so we would not let her have it during awake hours but with naps and bed time we would gave it back to her 18 months we tried to take it away again but she would still try to suck her thumb. At 2 we took it away she never tried to suck her thumb at that point so I knew she was ready. As far as speech issue she has none. The teeth being messed up it can cause crocked teeth but so can genetics and the thumb will, and can cause crooked teeth as well the only difference is eventually u can take the paci away you can't take a thumb away. The rotten teeth issue that was mentioned above is a different issue not caused by the paci I can explain that if your interested but it would make my post even longer.

every baby is different. my plan was to give my daughter a paci but she hated it and it did cause her to stop latching. i had to pump and put it in a bottle or she wouldnt eat and then it got to much to handle so i switched her to formula. she took the paci every once in awhile but never for more than 5 mins. i kinda wish i never gave it to her for the latching reason and im glad she doesnt have one now because i dont have to break her from the habit. i know with my next one i will not be introducing a paci but like i said, every baby is different. i know a few who nurse and take a paci just fine.

With my son at times it was the only way I could get him to soothe and go to sleep he has ADD and wouldn't sleep or relax any other way. It became something for him to focus on to self soothe. When he turned 4 and we found out we were expecting it was time to break the habit. It was extremely difficult due to him then not sleeping well. He is awesome now that it's been almost a year I know he does miss them though.

@babynessa, thank you for your thoughts and opinions I now have a lot to think about and take in to consideration @leahsmommi awww that's cute yeah my friend said they were in build a bear and her baby dropped it but was so infatuated with the Bears she ignored the pacifier lol didn't ask for one ever again

That's my biggest thing @dcb012 I've just read up on that as well that's why I'm kinda of leaning towards it I hear it helps them breathe better while sleep according to one article

I never had a problem when I was breastfeeding with latching and her being on a paci. Its better than being a human paci which hurts. But once I decided to switch to a bottle I took away her paci and she's never had one since then. @babyfoster

I "lost" my daughters and after about two weeks of crying she dropped it. Get her a sippy cup with a soft nipple. See if it help. I'm with @babynessa once teeth start to come just cut it out. It'll mess up her little teeth. Best of luck @moother03

Wow really me and my fiancé have been talking about it I told him I really don't want to use one because I hear it can cause babies to have latching problems @babynessa yes my little cousin had an issue with her teeth her mom let her use until she was 3

I agree with them until teeth start coming in and speech begins. Studies are now finding that pacifier usage may help prevent sids (yes I'm aware there's no reasoning behind sids) and even when nursing babies that can be versatile with nipple types are easier to adapt.

Like a safe haven for her she can't live without it .. I took it from her for two weeks she started sucking her thumb right after so I just her the pacifier back which I shouldn't have did but yeah @babyfoster

I think there ok to a certain age. Just because once they have teeth I'd be worried it would mess up their teeth. Same with bottles. I have nieces and nephews that have gotten rotten or teeth from the bottle. My daughter on the other hand only used a paci for about 4 weeks and that was the end of that.

Tbh idk how to feel but my lil girl is 2 she will be 3 in January she been on pacifier since the womb an still on it
