Yea, this is biased. Lol. Not everyone wants their kids to be named John and Mary, ijs. My children all have very unique & somewhat hard to pronounce names 🙂

@nikkim21, I don't think it's biased but its not fair for a child to be judged by a name but they are and you see it on the public school system all the time.

Well I graduated with a 3.8 GPA 2 scholarships one academic.. And took 80% honor classes..now a biology major at VCU.. And my real name is Shadikqua very ghetto.. But I broke down those "stereotype barriers" 😂😂

The names discussion can be a slippery slope. Not everyone agrees on "good" or "bad" names. The beauty of the world is that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. If a mum loves a unique name then that's great! If she prefers a more traditional name then that's great! Stereotyping based on a persons name reflects badly on the person doing the stereotyping, not the person who's name they're judging.

@mommyof3handsomeboys and @allyk.xmommy I was speaking with my mother who is a teacher and she was on lunch break with a few students in her room. She and I were having the conversation about the way some names are spelled or pronounced. They look one way and end up being something totally different. Not saying don't name your kid W.e. tf you want. Name your child zaboomafoo for all I care. I may not have phrased what I was saying well enough but I think @shayyliynn and @surprise4 put it a little better. It might not be fair but sometimes it's life. I had a coworker at the bank with a unique name and an old man refused to allow her into his account so it happens. Sometimes the school system could care less and no the name doesn't make the kid any less academically inclined but from watching generations of teachers in my family and hearing their students stereotypical experiences, it sucks, but they're just going to have to suck it up because that's their name.

@nikkim21, its definitely not fair, because it doesn't only effect them academically, they get get judged and so do the parents outside of school. Some children with unique names are profiled and discriminated against when they go out simply because of their names.

oh my god thank you @surprise4 . that is the point I was trying to make. Like even after a child graduates from college and even obtained a doctorate degree someone is going to be out there saying hey I don't want you to perform my surgery because your name is whatever... Like they just may not feel comfortable in this is how it is sometimes and it really does suck. I don't mean the kids not going to go to college but they do look at those applications like that. there's so many different things that can go into future careers or academic affairs that a lot of parents may not be aware of. definitely name your child that you carried whatever you like. the only conclusion that my mom came to with me was that it would be a little better if the system would give the kid a fair chance
