I have a question ladies
today I called my OB and informed them that I would be moving and needed my records sent to whatever Dr that I find close to my area.
This is when they decide to inform me that I have a 600 dollar bill for ultrasounds that NO ONE told me about from July 12th.
They then informed me that they could not release my records to any other doctor until I paid in full.
Obviously I cannot pay this bill in full In the next month, and I'm wondering if (A) a different Dr would even see me without the records
(B) if its dangerous to switch doctors and not have the records even though I can inform them of the important things(low lying placenta and vitamin deficiency)

Let them know you'll report them. They cannot withhold your records preventing further care due to non-payment. "American Medical Association Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs, which says that "medical reports should not be withheld because of an unpaid balance for medical services" as well as the TMA Board of Counselors position that "it is unethical for a physician to refuse or to delay improperly in responding to a valid request for transfer of a former patient's medical records because of an unpaid bill. The physician's first responsibility is the care and welfare of the patient. Other alternatives are available for the collection of fees."

I would be honest @1sttimemummy and tell them, look they didn't even tell me I owed anything until I told them I was needing a different Dr. I still haven't even received a bill and its almost a month later!
