First time mom, my baby is 3 weeks and I was just wondering how often and how long she should feed for? I feel like her feeding are irregular. Sometimes she eats every couple hours for about 10-20 minutes or sometimes she'll eat for 5 minutes then stop and then feed again for a little bit then stop and keep doing that until she's full. I also think she might be over feeding... just looking for some help or tips from other moms...
My daughter never burped that much, certainly not every feed! If she doesn't seem bothered and won't burp, I wouldn't worry too much. Also, baby's spit up a lot in the beginning and it subsides usually after 3 months, they are just getting used to eating so again, I wouldn't worry unless it's a BIG projectile vomit and it happens often.
Also sometimes it's like she won't burp at all.. is that normal? @bilaskipartyof5 @hellosweetie
babies sometimes get air pockets in there little bellys if they eat to fast. so when they burp food comes up. So half way thru a feeding burp and then go back to nursing it should help. @unicorncloud
@bilaskipartyof5, thank you for the response. I always stop feeding her if she vomits because I'm scared she will vomit again. But I'll try doing what you told me
Babies eat every 2-3 hours sometimes going longer at night the 5 minutes feeds are actually called cluster feedings most babies do this.....if baby is throwing up after nursing try stopping to burp the baby if they act hungry still continue feeding. @chelesti9 @unicorncloud
Omg I'm on the same boat. My baby girl does the same thing and is around 3 weeks old I thought I was the only one experiencing this. This post has helped me out too. Does this happen to any of you as well? It's been two days in a row where I breast feed my baby and I feel like I over fed her and she throws up soon after breast feeding but it just started recently so idk if she is rejecting my breast milk or she was just too full? 🤔
You're doing great, just count the pees, if she is peeing 5 to 6 times or more per 24 hours she should be doimg just fine! That and weight gain, of course! Keep at it, you got this 😄
@babes101116, @hellosweetie thank you! Just trying to get this figured out.
If you're breastfeeding you should feed at the breast on demand, this can be every 1 to 3 hours on average or even sooner, and for however long the baby wants. This ensures that your supply meets the baby's needs! Babies nurse for lots of reasons, and just like we will drink water throughout the day, and eat big meals and small snacks sometimes, they do as well. Sometimes they are just thirsty, sometimes they are a little hungry or a lot...it just depends on what their needs are. It's hard to be available like that for them in the early weeks, but trust me when I say, it gets easier! 10 months strong here with no bottles or pacifiers, if I can survive it anyone can LOL
As long as your baby is peeing enough, there's not much you can do the screw it up LOL follow your baby's cues and your instincts, and pees and weight gain will be your proof of a job well done! It sounds like you're doing great, it usually gets a bit easier and like second nature around the 6 week mark on average (took my daughter 2 months to get the latch down without pain because of tongue and lip ties but we did it without bottles!), so if you think of it that way, you are halfway through the hardest part of learning! After that your supply will even out and you won't get engorged as much and latching will be soooo much easier lol if you ever need encouragement or have questions hit me up, I am always here for nursing mamas in need 😊
