@daij, The first thing the hospital tells you is do not wet it with water. Alcohol actually helps it heal faster because alcohol will dry it out. You dip a q tip on alcohol and just clean the area

You don't use alcohol... You only use water, alcohol makes it longer for it to heal.

Where on the thing would I rub it

Use a q-tip much easier than a alcohol pad

You just wipe it around the base of the cord
