Hi guys!
Im 9wks 5days and have been noticing I'm super sleepy allll the time and get a fair amount of heartburn which isn't so bad as goes with rennie, however, i work 8-8 as a care assistant and recently asked to reduce my hours as IM too tired to complete the 12 hours. My manager laughed at me and said I'm too early in pregnancy to be tired and get heartburn... If she is right, does that mean something is wrong? :/ sorry i sound so naive, first time mummy!x
Yeah I would Hun cuz they can't treat you like that give ACAS a call as well n see what they can do xx
Thats fab! I was only on 6-8 but now nothing :) im ringing pregnancy advice lines and seeing what they say, my citizens advice isn't open til nxt week x
22 weeks but I told them when I found out at 7ish weeks and they were brilliant they are talking out of there arses you need to speak to someone above them and explain you feel your putting your pregnancy at risk X I didn't quit smoking as I suffer with anxiety and depression really bad and stopped my medication so dr recommended I slowly cut down week by week and take my time so as not to set me off I'm down from 20 or more a day to 3-4 a day on a good day x
Ive requested float and been told during pregnancy i shouldn't be changing anything that i normally do, they even said i shouldn't have quit smoking as it would stress my baby out! I quit the day i found out! My risk assessment she did was naff, @jamesnbump16 how far gone are you? They are refusing to be more flexible as im still early in pregnancy x
I work as a care assistant and I've just dropped from 36 to 30 hours cuz the one 12 hour shift I did was killing me I now just do 5 days of 6 hours with two days off and I'm sorry Hun but u should not be doing any heavy lifting I am now not doing any big manual handling I basically float round n do the odd job you should have a maternity risk assessment where you speak with your employer about anything you think is a risk xx
I'm still transferring and lifting too but I sometimes refuse if I'm not comfortable. you can say no if you feel you need to, especially with anything to do with manual handling. Msg me if you need/want to chat about it! xx
Yes she has one child and when i asked if she got my letter about reducing my hours she literally laughed and said 'come on your only 9 weeks, bit ridiculous that you're too tired to complete a shift'
I've been exhausted practically all the way through. Was one of the first things I noticed, which prompted me to do a test! It's totally normal. You really shouldn't be doing the heavy lifting though, and your boss should be more sympathetic. Does she have children? If not she can't possibly understand, and if she does, she should also appreciate that pregnancy affects every woman differently too. Some can tolerate the levels of tiredness a lot better than others. Me, I've not really gone one day without a nap at some point, and I'm now 32+5! Definitely speak to someone higher than her, some sort of reduction in your hours and your duties is required, in my opinion, for both yourself and baby.
Thanks im going to have a look in my contract to see what it says in regards to pregnancy x
@terri995, I'm sure this would come somewhere under pregnancy discrimination. It's very normal to be tired in your first trimester. Stay stubborn and tell your boss you don't feel safe to be doing the amount of hours you are doing. Put it in writing and if nothing happens, go higher. You need to look after No.1 work comes second to your health xxx
@terri995, you should deffinatly be having your hours reduced I couldn't even hack a 8-5 day with hour or so rest in between especially in the first trimester, and deffinatly should not be moving fully grown people about or heavy lifting!! Everything you do untill the little one arrives should be minimal to not put stress on you or your baby!! I would deffinatly go and speak to the highest person you can to sort something out xx
The owner of the home is above my manager but i think thats a bit drastic, he is only ever been in twice since i worked there i think! I got reprimanded for my sickness when i first found out, so now just end up going in and being sick then carrying on with work. I can't afford not to work especially with the little one on the way! Very sticky situation x
@terri995, I'm tired all the time too! I've been told it's normal for the first trimester then your energy picks up again. I'm lucky in a way as I have a 9-5 job and great employers (sympathetic with morning sickness etc). is there anyone above your manager you can speak to? x
@rach0402, work aren't giving me much choice! Not even been given light duties, im lifting and transferring fully grown men and women... I hope its not harming my little squirt!x
I was always super tired in the first trimester and did have a nap or maybe even 2 in a day for 30mins morning and afternoon for a while but I only have a small part time job so could. First and third trimesters are the worse for tiredness. I don't know how your are doing 12hr shifts 😔 @0xx
Ah we do 3 days of 8-8 then 2 either 8-2 or 2-8 :( i feel a bit stuck they arent helping me at all x
wow she definitely seems abit difficult, however my employer doesn't allow 6hr shifts so if I was offered them I'd jump at the chance! 12 hrs are killers :( xx
She has also said if i cut down my shift to 6hr rather than the 12, i have to work 6 days on and 1 day off rather than 5 on 2 off :(
My employer is allowing me a 10 min break every day to have a 'sit down' but the 8-8 are killing me, by 4pm im a zombie and no use to anybody, glad others have been tired though, maybe i just have a difficult boss?xx
I work 8-8 as a care assistant too and I was super sleepy during the first trimester and work was really hard. my employers are lovely and understand though. it's normal for you to be so tired this early on. I'd tell your manager to shut her trap tbh lol. drink and eat plenty and rest on your days off xx
Omg all I used to do was sleep and be tired all day in the 1st 10 weeks now I am 11 and has calmed down a bit, she obv never had kids X
