That's really good weight gain. He knows nothing about lactation. Most pediatricians don't. They only have a few hours in infant nutrition.
He said everything was fine when looking at her , said my milk supply is probably low.. and she was 7 pounds 3 ounces last Friday..said she was supposed to be gaining a ounce every day and she hasn't..and her birth weight was 6 pounds 10 ounces and left hospital at 5 pounds 7 ounces.
Lowest and current weight? 2 oz is way too much after a feeding. Was she evaluated for a lip or tongue tie? @kim5309
thank you @meagansimone the pediatrician says to give her two ounces of formula after every feeding ... I just give her one because she always spits it up..he said she isn't gaining weight like she should.
@kim5309, She's only a month old. The first 2ish months are like back t back growth spurts. Her being fussy is normal. She's trying to help your milk regulate. Start slowly cutting down the bottles and you'll be off formula here soon
@meagansimone, thanks.....I'm trying to wean her off the formula ...it's just upsetting because she is always fussy even after 40 min of switching sides.
Very few women actually don't produce enugh. Unless there is a medical condition, you're likely producing enoug. And the more you supplement th e less you make because breastmilk is all about supply and demand. @kim5309
I do both because I'm not producing enough.. any breast milk is good milk..don't be ashamed of something you can't control.
I don't want to hate on formula because I believe a full baby is all that matters but next time you're in the grocery store read the ingredients in formula... It turned me off instantly.. Sounded like a chemistry experiment rather than food for a baby. 😝
@meagansimone, is right. there is a lot in the media about a fed baby being best but its just to make everyone feel good. its "politically correct" but the truth is that breast milk is so much healthier for baby
Breastfeeding is better than formula because it's specific to the baby. It carries antibodies and so much more. Formula isn't the devil, but it isn't even second best to breastmilk.
my mom had 5 kids. some she breastfeed and some she didnt. she said that you really can't tell much of a difference. my oldest brother didn't breastfeed at all and my baby sister breastfed until she was 7 months... my mom said that we all had similar health mentally and physically. I think it's more of a preference thing. if you're asking my opinion as long as baby is fed and healthy then life is good.:)
Remember you are the mom, follow your gut. Doctors are not all knowing
