baby is measuring a week ahead, mine is too. just means a bigger baby.

Yeah I was confused at first too. I thought they just measured your tummy and didn't know how that worked because everyone's stomach is a different size.

Nope. They just measure your uterus, not your stomach. You could have conceived a little earlier than they estimated or your baby could just be bigger. But weight doesn't affect uterus size. It just gets as big as it needs to in order to accommodate baby.

does size before pregnancy contribute? I had gained weight before I got pregnant (due to not having a job for while & just being at home pretty much lying around).

They measure your uterus. There's an average size it should be every week and you're measuring a bit ahead. Could mean you have a big baby. If you keep measuring bigger they might do another ultrasound to check the size of the baby. But one week ahead isn't too big of a difference.
