All the nurses and doctors are going to tell you that. Look up Dr. Jack Newman. Most of the medications are safe enough to nurse including antibiotics and narcotics. Barely ANY gets into the milk, but they don't know that. Hopefully your lactation consultant will be an advocate for you like mine was.
Also, your baby absolutely won't starve. He will be frustrated with the bottle but he'll take it if he's hungry. Pace feeding will be important too so he isn't eating too fast.
I'm not sure how long I will be here but one of the nurses just told me I won't be able to feed him because of the medicine. I asked for a lactatiok nurse that way she can help me out I just don't want him to starve: ( @queeneden
My only suggestion is to ask for a hospital pump while you're there and pump every 2 hours no matter what. Look up the medications you'll be on and talk to the hospital lactation consultant. Anyone who tells you you need to stop nursing more than likely has no clue what they're talking about. I know this from experience. How long will you be in the hospital? Nurse your baby like normal no matter what. Send your milk home. Baby will take a bottle when they are hungry. Pump and nurse the entire time.
