Okay exclusively breastfeeding mamas, I've got a problem I need help with....my (almost) 6 month old girl has never taken a bottle, I've explained this before just trust me on this lol she only will suckle from the breast. That's not the problem, but here it is: We're moving from California to Arizona in 2 weeks, and the friends who are helping us will be driving the truck with my hubby and I will be driven in their van with our lil girl. The problem is that it's gonna be a 6 to 8 hour drive, and she CANNOT go that long without nursing unless it's nighttime when she sleeps, because she already sleeps 8 hours straight at night, she can't go that long during the day. We are getting the truck at 7am the day of and leaving as soon as it's packed up, so I it'll probably be evening but not too late. So I guess my question is, how do we manage this? She's going through a growth spurt and I'm hoping she calms down with that in the next 2 weeks, but no guarantees....she eats at least every 2 hours right now. The woman who's driving me never breastfed her children so she doesn't understand why I can't get her to drink from a bottle and she doesn't understand why it's sooo important for my supply and also for baby to feed often....any suggestions? Just know ahead of the time pumping and bottles are out of the question it's a long story but just trust me on this lol

I wouldn't worry about it.. You have to feed her.. Lol just tell this woman you will cover yourself.. I know I may get looked down on for this but you could just take her out of her seat for a few while she eats... Cover your self up, feed her and put her back in her seat.. That's a long drive obviously and you can't stop every 2 hours to feed her... I personally am terrified to feed my girl while she's in her seat... I'm afraid she will choke and I won't be able to get her out fast enough... Just an idea! Good luck

@wrd2016, yes, I have fed her before while driving but on a deserted road and we were going very slow because it was residential....but I dunno how I feel about doing it on the highway....hahaha dunno how I would get my boob to her face in her seat anyways 😂😂😂😂😂 I'll just have to explain how important it is to feed her often, hopefully she'll understand...and if I have to and there's no other cars around, maybe I can feed her without stopping....thanks!

You will have to stop for feedings, no way around it honestly. it will be OK they will just have to understand.

@dueaug28th, thanks, I hope they don't get weird about it....I don't wanna waste their time but I gotta feed my girl, I REALLY don't want my supply to hit rock bottom during this move....

Your welcome!! And I know.. I would also be nervous to take her it of her seat at that speed.. And I know times are different but my mom always tells me that when she was young there were no car seats and she's just fine 😂😂 so I think if it was the only choice and she needed to eat I would do it.. Just be really cautious of how many people are on the road around you which may not be many if it's later in the day or at night :)

They should be understanding your baby has to eat and its a long time to try to go with out. Good luck, hope everything goes smooth for you

okay so my husband and I moved from WI to Cali when my son was 3 months old. I exclusively breastfeed as well. we drove the entire way. all I did was breastfeed whenever we stopped to get my son out of his car seat for a bit and plop my boob in his mouth while we were on the road. yes I took my seat belt off to do this but he was in his car seat. I was nervous about that trip! but we did it! and it worked. then when we moved to AZ my son was about 6 months old and that's only a 5 hour trip, piece of cake. he slept half of the way and the other half I just had to keep him entertained and breastfeed him while he was in his car seat.

My parents live about 5 hours, sometimes more depending on traffic, when we go to visit I cluster feed my little guy before we leave and I keep him awake as much as possible, even if it means he's a tired brat lol when we went up for Xmas he wasn't even 2 months old, he slept in the car for like 3+ hours then when we stopped for gas I took baby out to change him then I started feeding him and when it was time to go I just honestly continued feeding him he we done, so he was not in his car seat... When he was done he went right back in and played for a bit and then actually took another snooze for the last hour or so! On the way home we hit horrible traffic and it took us 6.5 hours and same thing... I bet your little one will sleep a lot more than you would anticipate :)

@coltroyalsmama1224, goodness how on earth did you pull off breastfeeding with baby in the car seat?? I wouldn't know how to get at that particular angle hahaha @sev1226 you're right I'm prob over thinking this, last time we visited she was only 1 month old and slept a LOT so I wasn't sure how my now 6 month old would handle it...I'll be sure to ask them all to let me cluster feed her before we leave for sure....thanks BOTH of you for the advice!!! Everyone has been very helpful 😊

Lol its really not that hard. I just lean over the car seat and he's good to go. I'll admit I took him out a couple times on our 64 hour trip across the country but not for very long because of safety of course. but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do lol!(:

Hahaha I just got this mental image of myself awkwardly leaning over the car seat with my butt in the air, and baby girl latching weird 😂 I'll give it a go if she's crying and we can't stop right then hahahaha

Can you sit in the back seat with her?

@tahtahme, yes, I don't have a license so I'll be riding in the back with her

Oh perfect! I think you should sit back there and feed her, forget what people think! If you really need to, you could just have her out of the seat for 10 or 20min to feed, but babies like to sleep in cars, and I am sure you will be fine feeding at rest stops--it just wont be a very restful journey for you!

Hahaha thank you so much! @tahtahme I feel a lot better about this trip now 😁
