Also, it's kind of expensive but buy nipple balm from the honest company, it is the best most soothing thing you will ever put on your nipples, it's a god send I swear! It's like Vaseline but it's all natural with aloe Vera and other stuff that baby can have.

No bottles! It's going to hurt for about a week every time she latches on then you won't even feel it. You need to feed her on demand, everytime she cries basically, the first week sucks so much but I promise if you can go 2 full weeks you're going to be golden!

Yes just slide it in the corner of her mouth and twist the q tip to make sure her lips are curled out instead of in. It makes it easier for her to suck effectively. :)

I just took a breastfeeding class last week and learned so much! You want to be able to almost see the inside of her lips when she is latched on. Her top lip should be curled out toward her nose and her bottom lip toward her chin with most of your areola in her mouth. And if you see milk around her mouth don't unlatch her to clean it off because that means she's latched on right! Sometimes you might have to have someone help you and baby with the latch, like your SO because he can see more than you can. The class instructor said if you use a q tip and slide it between your nipple and the corner of baby's bottom lip and twist it to make sure her lip isn't tucked under that helps a lot of people. She said the nurses may look at you funny if you ask for a q tip but it works every time!

@mommy2x most likely you will get engorged. especially once your milk comes in. and it will hurt.😣 just massage and use a warm compress or take a hot shower. nursing or pumping will help alleviate the pain quickly.

yes that what the nurse told me who called herself helping im sitting there basically looking dumb founded trying get my breast in her mouth she was no help thats when she said theyll come around tomorrow @rosalinasmami

@mommy2x whaaat?! that's crazy! thought they always had one on call. well as nurse should be able to help you in the mean time also. They should know the basics so baby can latch

@mommy2x yes offer the breast first. she's most likely not latching properly. try and squeeze your boob from the and shove it in her mouth! lol express a little milk (or colostrum if your milk hasn't come in yet) and rup your nipple on her top lip to get her to open her mouth. once she opens wide, that's when you'll want to put your breast in.

if your still at the hospital they should have a lactation consultant to help you with babys latch.

so just start by breast forst and not bottle at all? yea i dont know if she was fully on she was sucking and it hurt so i stopped but i want to keep trying @rosalinasmami

the first week or so will the roughest. if she isn't latched good it will hurt. make sure the majority of you areola is in her mouth. you can try and use a nipple shield if you get too sore. It's not meant for long term use, so you'll eventually ween her off and she should be latching better. it's best not to offer a bottle until baby has developed a good latch so wait 3-4 weeks.
