🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨guys I need help !!! My sister in law just had her baby last week and is breast feeding him but isn't producing enough milk . She's literally trying everything you can think of and nothing's :( any suggestments? She tried laction cookies, mothers milk tea, pills. Pumping. Warm rags on her breast . Massaging them. HELP!🚨🚨🚨🚨

She said that he crys all the time. And when she give him formula he drinks up too 2-4 ounces. And when she pumps only a quarter of an ounce comes out.
what makes you think she isn't making enough milk? at a week old their stomach is very tiny!!

That's great, @bellie0225! Same here, she's never had a bottle or anything, all about that boob lol and I plan on going for as long as she wants until she weans! She's been starting solids, but only a lil bit once a day or every other day so far 😊
@bellie0225, Ethan is 6 weeks and he's never drank from a bottle. I pump for when I return to work in the spring and breast feed exclusively.
@bellie0225, it doesn't stay in your system. Not right away you would breastfeed. I'm not a big drinker. But drank one and several hours later omg my breast was dripping.
My baby turned 6 months today. And I strictly breast feed her. And she is so beautiful,chunky and healthy. I plan i feeding her for an year.

Awww thanks 😍 I hope some of that advice helps her out!!!!! Breastfeeding is tough, and I've wanted to give up several times lol but I'm 5 months in, almost 6 now and it's been amazing!

Tell her to stop supplementing if possible because it's a supply killer, she needs to signal her body to make EVERYTHING the baby needs to eat, not just some and the rest formula....as soon as she stops supplementing, count the pees. If she's counting them and doesn't get at least 5 pees in a 24 hour period, then AFTER baby fills up on breast milk, offer the bottle until her supply increases, but make sure every time she gives formula she pumps at the same time so her breasts are still being stimulated! Babies cry for many reasons, he may have gas or be over tired or just colicky, it may not be a supply issue at all! Just make sure he has unlimited time at the breast and I'm sure it'll be okay...they go through cluster feeding stages in the first month and then every couple weeks after that where they will cry for the breast and seem like they're hungry ALL THE TIME, and many mothers panic and think they aren't producing enough, when in reality they are, but baby just wants the extra comfort that nursing brings, or baby is uncomfortable in some way like growing pains, gas or whatever, or baby is trying to increase mama's supply naturally....they are very smart, they tell us how much to produce based on how often they want to eat! She's gotta trust in her body that she CAN produce enough for her baby, and just let him nurse all day if he wants to lol breasts are never "empty" while breastfeeding, either, they continue to produce milk even as the baby feeds! She will have a let down (milk ejection reflex) at the beginning of a feed, and then every 10 to 15 mins or so after that, I've fed my baby on one breast for 2 hours straight during cluster feedings and the milk will slow and but then a let down will come and she will suddenly start swallowing faster...this continues to happen as long as you let the baby suckle! It's truly amazing, if she trusts her body and just nurses and nurses....it'll be okay. And at her next appointment, if baby isn't gaining weight, she can work out a plan with her doctor. But the baby will not starve in the meantime, he's getting a lot of nutrition from mama and feeding even every hour is COMPLETELY NORMAL for a newborn!!! They have teeny tiny stomachs and burn through breast milk fast lol....I've read a great way of thinking about it from a lactation consultant once, she said think of breast milk as a salad and formula as a burger....eating that burger is gonna make you nice and full and the salad you may feel hungry again in an hour...but the salad is obviously the healtheir choice LOL
He's is little over a week. But the baby cries a lot cause he's hungry so she's been giving him formula. But she still latches him as much as she can. She's trying really hard but nothing seems to work 😞 @hellosweetie

BTW how old is the baby? If he's younger than 5 days old her milk may not have come in yet, in which case tell her to DEEP BREATHE it will come in, but for now colostrum is plenty for her newborn!

How many times a day is the baby peeing? Because if he's peeing at least 5 or 6 times per day, there is no cause for concern! Babies cluster feed and that is completely normal, they may seem like they are constantly hungry but they nurse for more reasons than being hungry. Also, pumping is NOT an indication to how much she is producing, therefore she needs to feed the baby at the breast because baby is MUCH more efficient at extracting milk, and just make sure to count those pees and make sure he's gaining weight at his appointments 😊 I also agree she needs to drink lots of water, and also feed the baby often, do not time feeds but make sure baby eats every 2 to 3 hours, latch on one side, let him nurse until he unlatches himself. If he fell asleep, change his diaper, then offer the other breast until HE is done. Next feed, offer the breast she ended with first, then the other breast just like before only alternating breasts. Breast milk is supply on demand, therefore the more she lets the baby empty the breasts, the more it will tell her body to produce! pumping is not a significant way to tell how much ur making and if she wants to make more she needs to stop supplementing and keep him on boob to regulate her supply feed every 2hours and pump after feedings and make sure he's burping a few times while eating something could also be bothering his stomach or he has colic.
