Any advice out there on pros & cons of using an epidural during labor? I personally want to have a natural birth for personal reasons yet I know I have the option of epidural when the time comes. Still indecisive & would love to hear any of your personal stories since I know every woman is different :)

and idk if it had anything to do with the epidural but I forgot almost everything that happened after I got it. I barely remember seeing and holding my son for the first time and it makes me so sad :(

I made it to 9 cm dialated without any pain meds then had to have a emergency c section and get an epidural and I literally could feel NOTHING. it was the weirdest thing. I hated it. I couldn't move my legs at all and had to have my boyfriend lift me up when they changed out the pads I was laying on. I had to have a catheter for two days, I couldn't control my farts so I was farting around all our visitors. it was so embaressing! I definitely could have done a vaginal birth without it i think. You should try to not get one if you can!

I had an all natural water birth and from the moment I found out I was pregnant with my son I already new I didn't want any meds. Epidural never crossed my mind, looks too scary for me and I didn't want my son and I to be all drugged up when we met for the first time. All natural is the way to go in my opinion. Safer for you and baby ☺️💙

I've heard from almost all my friends that their epidurals led to horrible back pain that sticks around for years 😨 I had an all natural birth, personally. I had about 14 hours of early labor contractions at home, very easy to handle. I went in at about 9pm and got checked and sent home at 3.5cm because I thought my water broke but it hadn't (it was the bloody show, super watery so I thought I was leaking amniotic fluid). Labored at home for a while longer, 2am that night got up to go pee and POP! My water breaks FOR SURE this time, and I called hubby at work to come get me, all the while sitting on the toilet through the contractions because it gushed with every contraction. Crazy! Got to the hospital at 3am, was 4cm dilated. Hour later fully dilated, nurse had just finished checking me in when I told her I had to push, and she told me to resist because she thought I was at 5cm tops by then...after trying to talk me into the epidural to relax, she finally checked me again and sure enough, I was fully dilated and I was experiencing the ejection reflex, when my body was pushing with every contraction whether I tried to stop it or not lol...she was born at 4:32am 😍 so in all, 14 hours early labor, 2.5 hours active labor and pushing 😲💪😉 It was the most amazing experience of my entire life, I always wanted a natural birth, no meds, and I'm so glad I did it. I plan on having at least one more baby and I want it all natural again, in fact I told hubby we're gonna take home birthing classes next time cuz it'll prob happen faster the second time around and I ain't havin the kid in the car lol it's intense, and hella painful, and beautiful....just remember if you really wanna do it, you can. You are woman, you are strong, and you are built for it! Don't tense up and panic, just let the pain flow over you, close your eyes, and exhale with the pain, I let out a moan with each exhalation and that helped me cope, I never took classes just followed what felt natural to me! Also stay at home as long as you can handle, because the hospital can be stressful and stall your labor if you go before you're in the throws of active labor. Natural births tend to happen faster if the setting and mindset is right, if it's too stressful then epidural can also be a good option 😊 either way, you can do it, and just remember how amazing and strong your body is!!! We bring life into the world, we are AMAZING mama!

I was going to try natural like you, but I had to be induced :/ apparently when you are induced labor pain can be worse depending on the woman and the amount of medicine needed. My pain was soooo bad. Once I had the epidural I was straight chillin lol. I would definitely recommend it! If you are in so much pain it is just making the whole experience horrible for you, I don't see why you shouldn't do it :) after the epidural I slept, which was MUCH needed. When I woke up I was laughing and having so much fun with my family. I had the walking epidural so I could move around quite a bit. I honestly wish I had gotten it sooner in my labor. I waited 6 hours to get it! It was my life savor haha. Unfortunately I wound up having a c-section later, but that had nothing to do with the epidural. My babe was just going into destress because my birth canal was too small.

I had to get it since I had a csection, but I can say the only problem I have with it is that my back hurts that's a effect you get!! @gothmom123

Epidural was amazing for me except you can't move after you have it. That's the only downfall for me. I wanted to get up and walk around but it took me awhile to be able to stand up and walk. Other than that it was nice to be able to rest and sleep before I had to push. I went 24 hours without it but they recommended I get it because I was so tense and tired that my body stopped dilating. There are other pain options as well. This time I'm probably going to get the epidural again. I haven't decided.
