My baby is a month old. He has milk allergies, lactose and tolerant, also he has acid reflux. He is currently on gas drops and acid reflux meds. Before we found out he was lactose he always strained very hard and cry when he try to use it. Now that the doctor changed him to Soy formula, he still strains and cries when he uses it. He isn't constipated, his bowel movement isn't hard. Does anyone have any insight? It hurts seeing him strain and cry just to use it.

my son had similar problems. he has acid reflux, and he can't have regular formula... when he was first born he was religiously using gas drops and acid medicine. my mother in law talked me into giving him his milk with karo syrup.. just a couple drops. it's supposed to help him go to the bath room easier. and I did. and at 1 month old I started feeding him baby food. I stared with the oatmeal, and I gave him carrots to start and he has eaten baby food since then. for me it seemed to help with his symptoms. he held down his food really well and milk became easier to tolerate. he I'd now 6 months old, he is 20 lbs, can drink a bottle like a champ. eats his cereal meals 3 times a day. he has fresh/frozen fruit in a teething mesh. and has even began soft table food. at first I was very against the baby food.. but now I'm so glad I did it. maybe this will help. if you do start him on baby food. make it very thin, and if you put jar baby food in it. stick to the same one for 3 or more days to watch for allergies. and no green veggies. they give gas so bad! you can also mix the cereal with the Karo syrup instead of baby jar food at the begining. :) good luck

I know it's so hard to see them straining and crying and it truly does get very tiresome, but think of the first 12 weeks as the 4th trimester. His body is learning how to function independently from yours and it's hard work learning how to coordinate all these bodily functions. :). Try to stay calm and patient, he will likely cry no matter what you choose to be honest. My 19-month old and my 4 month old were similar and right around 12 weeks, it magically seems to resolve itself.

When u see him stringing and struggling, maybe try massaging his belly.. i know it helps to get gas bubbles moving and maybe it will his tummy feel a little better.. be careful with I trouncing foods to him this early on though, bc it can cause digestive issues and really keep in contact with ur peds dr.

Right now he's trying the spy formula but if nothing changes by Monday his pediatrician is going to change his medicine again. She already said he probably have to have a little bit of cereal added to his milk for his reflux
