I feel so disrespected, as you can see I asked my mother not to smoke tomorrow, being that she will be at the hospital as in being induced and until I actually have the baby. I don't want her covered in cigarette smoke around me and my newborn child. And DAMN sure don't want her holding him if she's going to smoke. It's pretty selfish of her to not just say okay and respect my wishes, in my opinion. It's just crazy to me how she'll talk about not being addicted to smoking and that she could go without it, yet clearly isn't planning on doing so on such an important day. #RANTOVER

I know it, I'm trying to time these contractions bc I haven't really had any the whole pregnancy besides when I had a uti, and these are hurting pretty bad and consistent. Atleast I'm going in at 6 to be induced, so maybe I'll already be in labor. @nathansmommy2

I know. And I would seriously HATE to do that, but if it comes down to it she won't be able to hold him or go in the nursery etc.. That will kill her so hopefully she won't risk it.

they can make her leave if you tell them... because most hospitals respect what you want especially during labor or after labor @babyjjsmommy

Well you're not in the wrong, I know you can't quit cold turkey and doctors do advise you to just slow down on it so good for you, you're doing the right thing! And yeah she's not gonna wanna piss me off, I'm already in so much pain it won't be pretty if I have to say something. @nathansmommy2

Yeah and even if I was wrong, wouldn't it be better to be safe about it?! That's what I don't understand about people who want to debate. If you know something is dangerous to the health of your newborn and you can do things to prevent it, why wouldn't you?! So what if there are other things in the world that are harmful that we can't control. It's no excuse to not be proactive about the things that you can..But like I said previously, some moms don't really give a shit about doing that for whatever reason. @rgaine

@babyjjsmommy, you're welcome. Also, I've done extensive research on smoking, lung cancer, etc. as my dad was in the newest studies at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston before he passed this past year. They are ranked #1 in lung cancer research in the world and what the above poster said about changing a shirt not helping is just not true. They are already proving that smoke free environments are far safer for babies if smokers change all the fabric they are wearing and shower (including washing hair) before entering the space with the child. Some of the studies are available online but most are still in the works as they are very cutting edge much like the tests showing that some lung cancer may also be genetic as the mutations can be passed down (possibly from prior generation smokers). Go with your instincts- you're right about the dangers in this case.

@babyjjsmommy, I'm with you! Others can do what they want but when it comes to my baby it's my responsibility to keep it safe and they have recently proven how bad 3rd hand smoke is for babies (from hair, fabric, drywall, on people, etc). I saw my dad die a horrible death from lung cancer and know that I will do everything I can to ensure my child or I do not get it. Fine- the air and water may well kill me, but if I can prevent that for my baby's sake I'll do that too. Props to you- stand your ground on what you believe is best- no matter what that is...

I'm just saying that's not the only harmful thing out there. may as well just put baby in a hyperbaric chamber. secondhand smoke is already in the air along with other pollutants. a shirt change won't help. its everywhere. even your own clothes.

Yeah, because I definitely won't be getting over it. Especially under as much pressure and pain I'm going to be in tomorrow I probably won't be as nice about it. That's why I nicely asked her before hand. @angelkisses and exactly, I mean come on! This is a newborn baby we're talking! I may seem petty to some, and I get that some mom's don't give a shit about certain things. But best believe I do, lol I'm a FTM anyway so ya can't blame me! @rgaine

So basically she's saying she's ok with 3rd hand smoke getting on your baby if she doesn't shower or happens to not change clothes. Gross... And terrible for the baby.

I refused to go over to my mom's with my first kid because of smoking. She got pissed but got over it because she wanted to see her grand daughter so me sticking to my guns helped in the end. After that they didn't smile while the girls came over. As they got older they ask not to go over so they didn't have to smell it. People telling you to get over it need to think about what it does to your lungs. @babyjjsmommy

Well I disagree, it's cool if someone wants to do it on their own time but, when I ask someone nicely to NOT on one specific day especially when they CAN refrain from it with no problem it's rude to not respect my wishes. I don't know anything about these "chemicals in water, formula, and air" but I do know about second hand smoke and that is something that can be completely avoided. @lakilucid

nearly everyone I know smokes. there's no avoiding it. they all try to smoke outdoors but its silly to ask everyone to change their habits for me. they are grown adults that can make their own choices. honestly with all the chemicals in the air, water and food even in formula, smoke on a shirt is the least of my worries.

Yeah my mom smokes inside too at her place, so she's definitely going to have to be coming to visit us for the first few months. @brown1995 and @theinkedbarbie yeah, I guess that's really all you can do. I just would prefer her completely refrain from it because cigg smoke gets in people's hair more than anything. Changing a shirt won't do anything for that :/

Well I don't live with her so thankfully I won't have that to deal with, but I think it's pretty shitty she can't go one day without them and wants to talk all of the time like she doesn't need them. @brown1995

I can't take it anymore! Haley (yes my 1mth old and no I wasn't able to go through this "joy" of nursing my older daughter, Molly) has been screaming non stop for 6hrs! All she wants to do is eat and I can't have her attached to me all day, everyday! She has wanted to eat every hr on the hr for the past 3hrs! I put her in her room so I don't scream at her but I just can't take it!

lillyb Good job giving ur self a break we all need them. See if maybe she will nurse
delete____ I have to commend you for stepping away, momma!! Everyone reacts to a child screaming differently and
imisssleep123456789 Ugh I remember those days. With both kids I decided to always top them off with formula.
