Have any of you mothers adopted? Did you adopt out of the system, or private adoption? How was your experience? Also, I'm having a pretty hard time getting my husband on board with this idea. Did any of you have to really work to get them to accept? I know I never really want to be pregnant again, but I absolutely love being a mother. I know there are tons of children who need homes… And I want to give that to them. Age is not an issue, I don't necessarily need to have a "baby baby", so that's why I assumed that maybe adopting out of the system would be best for us.

I don't know much about it, but I'd like to do this later, too. Have you thought about being a foster parent first?

I was adapted out of the system. Do you want an open adoption or a close adoption? How old of a child are you willing to take?

@babynessa, so, I feel like my husband is having a hard time, because he's thinking that if it's not a teeny tiny baby then he might not have enough love for it. He might not feel like it's actually his baby… But I truly believe that once he sees the child, he will have no reservations. My mother-in-law agrees. I would like definitely want a closed adoption. As far as age goes, I think 5 years old max. But, ideally I would think birth to 1 year old. --- did your family choose a closed or open adoption? And I know this sounds weird, but did you ever go looking for your birth parents? Because I feel like I don't know if I'd be able to handle that.

@mamalamadingdong, my best friend is a foster parents, and while I do have a serious amount of respect for foster parents, I feel like straight adoption would be easier for me. I just know that if I have more children in my care, I will want them all.

@jennatess, I know who my birth parents are, I always have. When I turned 18 I went to try and live with my birth mom because I have many memories of her when I was young. Biggest mistake ever, stayed less than a month and went to my sisters. Now I refuse to allow my birth mom to have any relationship with me or my daughter once she's here. But everyone gives their kids up for a different reason. In the foster system it's mostly because of drug abuse, child gets abused, child not taken care for ect.Your husband I believe after awhile will come around to loving a child once he connects with him or her. If you do adopt a 5 year old depending on their background and why they aren't with their parents you have to be opened to that child remember. Remember good memories and bad memories. It all depends on where you go for adoption because some kids don't have any bad experience but some do. That's something you want to keep in mind when looking for a child. Are you willing to take a child that's been abused or was a drug baby or do you want a child with no horrible background?

@jennatess, what I would do is research the agencies around you. Tell them what you and your husband are looking for and seeing the requirements you guys have to meet to adopt. I know some adoption agency want to know if the child you have is over a certain age. The reason behind that is so you don't miss anything. Other agencies don't care. You just want to reach out and see where you'd like to go, if that's a private agency or through the system. Adoption is what I want to do once I'm finished having kids with my husband. Before I married my husband I told him that's what I'm going to do. Told him he could support me or not but there are millions of kids that are just longing for someone to love them.

I was adopted out of the system but it was a closed adoption to protect me. That's so great that your thinking about adopting . There are too many kids in the system
