My 6 year old daughter is having a hard time in 1st grade. The teacher says she is behind grade level and suggest keeping her back a year. she is very smart but has a hard time focusing and remembering things she has learned. what should I do????
So it's hard for me because my 16 year old past the test when she was in third grade and my niece passed it last year and now all my daughter's friends will be going to the third grade and she will be repeating and I don't want to send her back to the same school to be bullied because she has to repeat a grade and so I'm looking into other schools but see the thing is you teach her something she gets it then you go back to it and she like I don't know it so frustrating and she likes to wonder off so I'm scared to bus her because they lost her 2times on the bus and just the other day they let her walk home by herself I'm just in over my head please pray for me that I can find the right school and get an understanding of what to do
I hate that they have to pass this test in order to go to the next grade my daughter never been held back now she being held back because of this test good grades but failed test so she has to repeat the 3rd grade
Anyone else’s toddler constipated all the time? My daughter is always constipated and it’s worrying me. I’ve taken her to the doctor and they found out that she was very backed up but this has been going on and off for almost a year. 😢

sounds like she has A.D.D I have that you should get her tested for it just in case . I hope this help :)

practice/review in chunks. for example don't go over all her sight words at one time. practice 2 or 3 at a time. make it fun. write sight words in shaving cream, use toys or food to spell the words out, cheer them out. that helped a few of my students that were struggling. and most of all, don't get frustrated with her, it may cause her to shut down.

public school seems to be for kids that can sit still and spit back everything the teacher taught. find her learning style and reteach the skills at home to help her retain the info better.

@burgescd, I have tried all that but when I review it with her she has already forgotten how to do it and she will not stay on task. she has gotten a lot better since the beginning of the school year though. she is just not retaining what she has learned

I recommend getting her extra help at school, tutor, working with her more . Doing more fun learning activities that will help her with what she's struggling with. Sorry but most teachers recommend holding back and then the student gets held back and still has the same problems as before cause the problems weren't addressed why they were failing in the first place . Its hard for the teacher to give one on one she has other students some kids just beed the extra help Goodluck

@leiibaaaby, I agree. she does leave class for about 30 mins to have one on one with another teacher. I have looked into tutoring but its just to expensive and I can't afford it

Maybe you can ask the school i know at my cousins school some teachers volunteer and they help with hw at the after school program just go talk to them and make sure they are doing everything they can for your baby girl

if I were you I would try what you can to bring her up to speed cause it's only January so she can possibly catch up but if she doesn't by the end of the school year then there is nothing wrong with holding your daughter back. she will just struggle harder in 2cd grade. but hopefully she doesn't have too. either way get her a tutor in the summer she might need that one on one attention.
