I'm a first time mom. My baby is due in about 10 weeks or less, and I'm set on breastfeeding my baby. I'm very nervous though. I keep getting mixed advice about how often to feed, when to pump (people have told me not to pump for a few weeks to help my supply), and also not to use bottles or pacifiers because of nipple confusion. It all gives me a headache just thinking about it. Anybody have any positive advice that can help to ease my mind? Thank you!

First time mom here too! 👋😊. I would go with the flow of what works for YOU & BABY. Everybody is different & you'll drive yourself crazy trying to fit in everyones opinion. Definitely feed on babys time though. I had a hard time with that though at first because my daughter slept ALL the time & shes a DEEP sleeper so I had to wake her up to feed but now shes 6 weeks old & wakes or lets me know when shes hungry. I breast feed AND bottle feed my daughter & fortunately for me, I've never had an issue with nipple confusion, she'd take both with no issue but that could also be because I didnt get my milk right away, I had to pump what I could & whatevr I could get out, the nurse would feed her with just a nipple. Now she definitely prefers boob over bottle. She'll VERY seldom take a pacifier & if she does, she wont take it without making a disgusted face & mean mugging me first lol. Big thing also with BF, make sure your baby latches correctly! they should help you in the hospital & if they don't, ask! I learned the hard way & my nipples became sore & cracked - something that's *NOT normal so if that ever happens, check your latch. breastfeeding is a beautiful feel good experience. sometimes the beginning can be frustrating especially if it doesn't start how you want it to (no milk, difficulty latching etc) but DON'T GIVE UP! It's all worth it in the end 😊

My little guy is 9 weeks.. I haven't used a pacifier or a bottle. When he was born he was 9lbs 9oz so he arrived hungry lol and in order to establish my milk supply I would give him the boob pretty much whenever he cried for the first few weeks. This not only helped my milk come in quickly but it also forced my nipples to adapt.. I'll admit there were a few days where I was literally in tears every time he latched on but that only lasted a few days.. Once you get past the pain you're going to be golden!

I agree--feeding on demand is best! And I also agree that it will be best to hold off on pumping for the first 4-6 weeks until your supply has established and you and baby have gotten in a good routine!

^yes feed on demand! If baby is sleepy it's recommended not to wait longer than three hours to feed them for the first month though. Babies get dehydrated easily and breast milk is digested very quickly! The nipple confusion is something only some babies experience I think. You don't want to introduce a bottle until your milk supply is fully established, usually a couple weeks. I pumped the second week after my son was born because I wanted to have more milk than he needs to save in the freezer for the future and what not lol and it helped me with my supply. Feeding baby when they are hungry and making sure they are having plenty of wet and dirty diapers is the most important and all you should worry about for now😊

If you are breastfeeding you feed on que. When your baby looks like it's hungry feed it! Always! My pediatrician told me that the baby is in charge when breastfeeding.
