What are people's opinions on putting a newborn to sleep with a blanket covering them? I have always been told this is dangerous and you should always use those sleeping bag things... I'm just interested in what other people think :)
It's not that it's dangerous as such, you just need to make sure you use the right type of blanket. Also, then sleeping bag things are a nice idea but you aren't supposed to use them till baby is 6 weeks old. So for 6 weeks you're going to use what exactly? A blanket. Precisely lol cellular ones are the best ones
You can use a cellular blanket that you tuck under the Moses basket mattress with a newborn. You can't use a sleeping bag until your little one is at least 4kg (8.8lb) and you can't really use them in a Moses basket anyway. If LO is sleeping is swaddle or use a cellular blanket (my boy didn't like the swaddle btw). Also sleeping bags are not really handy when it comes to night feelings (they make him sooo chubby and clunky).
Try not to worry to much (easier said than done I know). Newborns are noisy sleepers and you'll wake up many times a night because of it and check on you LO. And chances are baby wriggles the blanket downwards not over the face anyways. Ax
use it chick, they say not to use loose covers but I don't tuck my daughters blanket in Purley because they say when they're hot the will wiggle down the blanket which I feel if it's tucked in it would be more dangerous plus my daughter will kick hers off of she is too hot xx
@lottiesmam, I've bought a gorgeous blanket and I'd hate to think of it going to waste! Haha
Well then use a sleeping bag if you think that will make you feel more comfortable. when you have a newborn you worry about so many things so anything that makes you feel a little better and relaxed is a good thing
*sorry about the typos I'm at work and can't multi task haha x
My son is almost 2 and has used a blanket from birth and so will my new baby. sleeping bags are a relatively new thing. blankets have been used for thousands of years. sleeping bags are safer in some respects but my son hated them because he was a wriggle bum and they restricted him. If you're using cellular blankets they have the holes in the regulate temperature and also if they move over babies face they still have holes in. But like i said my song could wriggle from the bottom of his cot bed to the top at 6 weeks old and he never once pulled a blanket over his face. Obviously it is possible but so are many other things. You just have to do what you're comfortable with
My 13 week old sleeps with a light weight blanket in his Moses basket, his feet are always at the bottom but we tuck the sheet underneath the mattress or when he was little wed swaddle him x
If u are concerned ask your midwife hun they don't have the strength to pull it over there face but do what u think is best x
I'd still worry, because baby can possibly pull the blanket over their face in the night x
I guess as long as it's not up to babies neck it's fine x
Thank you :) xx
