I have a cat and he has free reign of the house so I voted yes. The comment that followed gave me cause for concern. Now I don't know what to do. Anyone have anymore insight into this?
I don't deal with his litter box btw. My husband has happily accepted that task.

I don't allow my cats in the bedrooms at all. Everywhere else is fine - I de flea them even more so and have to check their paws when they come in as foot and mouth is so common ATM x

I don't allow my cat in my room. As If he got into my bed...I would find it unhygienic. I don't even allow him to lay on my a lot of the time. Everytime I stroke him I wash my hands. Cats dig in mud etc....other cats poo etc. On they bring that in. I never was like this with my old cat... I grew up with him. Had him for 18 years. Didn't find him dirty. I would let him sleep in my bed...stroke him and then pick up fruit or whatever straight after without washing my hands. I just find cats I don't know...or cats I don't have a bond with unhygienic. Cats can have lots of other diseases.

My cat is completely indoors. He has never been out of my house other than for vet visits so he definitely isn't digging into anything, let alone mud or other cats business. He gets his annual vaccinations and checkups. I flea him and trim his claws every month. I worm him every 3 months. My husband cleans his litter box 3 times a day. We use a good clumping litter so everything is taken out. He has his own bed in the bedroom so he's barely on our bed.
I thought I was doing everything right by him and us. Now I'm not so sure. I guess I'll have to start limiting his freedom. 🙈 I feel so bad. 😖

Chances are you have already been exposed to toxoplasmosis, whilst you've probably had it and dealt with it, if you got it whilst pregnant it could harm the baby. If you've had cats for a while don't worry! yes don't touch the trays (hubby is on poop scoop duty) but it's fine to stroke them. I think if you've always allowed them in your room there's no need to change that, however when the baby comes don't allow the cats in the room when they are very young as fur could cause breathing problems. (My sister had to move her very fluffy house rabbit outside). You might want to get some feliway for when baby comes, and I give one of my cats zykline (I'll double check the name) it's like kalms for cats, it's natural but you can only buy it from the vets, it helps chill them out. I have two cats, one I think will be fine with baby, one is going to freak out.

@mummywarwick
thanks. I actually really appreciate the essay. I'm a looonngg way to needed to adjust him new baby but I've already looked into it and know what I should be doing... The crying baby audio, moving anything of his that needs to moved way before baby time and felliway. I also plan in taking him to the vets before then too. My cat means a lot to me, he's like my baby.
He's a friendly cat and gets on well with my nephews and nieces so I'm not too worries but I know things will be different with permanent change and I plan on doing everything possible to make this easier on everyone, especially him.
