For breast feeding moms, on average how much do you pump & how old is your baby?
Yess mam, I wish someone told me these things I the begging it would have made my first month easier! It's not recommended to pump before the 6 weeks because it can cause an over supply. Your breast are basically supply and demand, so the more you pump/feed the more your body will make, I would recommend just nursing on demand and if you feel engirged hand express milk until comfortable. Around 6 weeks your milk will regulate and you won't really leak or feel engored anymore. An over supply is a blessing and a curse at the same time.. Lol I had it in the begging and I had mastitis and clogged ducts all the time because I had so much milk😩. I know when you pump and you get a tingle in your breast then the milk basically shoots out? That's a let down and the milk just flows down the babies throat. Well with an overactive let down or forceful let down the milk will come out fast and a lot ! It could give the baby tummy problems or cause then to be overwhelmed by the milk and choke a little because they can't swallow fast.. Breastfeeding is natural and mostly comes to you but there is things that the hospital should tell you like this ^^^
I didn't know there was a such thing as over supply! @paigesanchez14 but yes I sometimes pump and feed! And I am careful and I milk often to help reduse clogged ducts... what is over active let down?
So you pump and feed from breast? Oh wow mama! That sounds like an over supply. Hope I'm not over stepping here but a normal session should be .5-5 oz over that is considered an over supply and could cause problems like clogged ducts .. Over Active Let Down Ect..
Oh okay, thank y'all! I was thinking I wasn't making much but I guess I've actually got a great supply... I pump about every 3-5 hours and if I pump and my son doesn't feed on my breast, I usually get anywhere between 10-12 ounces and when I pump after he eats I usually get about 7ish ounces and he's two weeks old @mlmckeeth @paigesanchez14
Definitely did not know that.... my son had a hard time staying latched or would fall asleep before he's fully satisfied so I started pumping and giving him a bottle too and so dad could feed him some... @paigesanchez14
