Lila's Birth Story

I am going to start this off with a timeline:

9/17 - 1:33am (Approx) - Woke up to go pee - no contractions, or any other signs of labor

9/17 - 4:44am - Woke up to go pee again. At this point, I couldn't fall back asleep, but still no contractions or signs of labor. I laid there on my left side until I heard and felt a pop in my stomach. I didn't think much of it. A few minutes later, my left hip started hurting and I got a belly ache sensation, so I turned on my right side. Got comfy, then I stretched out my left leg, and felt wetness. I knew right away that it was my water, so...

9/17 - 5:27am - I did the stand up test. I figured if I get up and more gushes out, it is definitely my water. And it was! Steve slept on the couch because Nena wanted to sleep with me, so I called him. Poor guy was awake and couldn't sleep.

"Good morning!"

"My water broke!"

"Your what? Your water broke? What do you need?" I started laughing at this point.

"A towel, honey."

He rushed upstairs, out of breath as if he just ran a marathon. LOL!

He gave me a towel and I went and sat on the toilet for a little while, as I was still trickling. At this point, I had contractions here and there, but nothing crazy. Steve took a 2-minute shower while we waited for my sisters to come and get the girls. I showered as well, and the contractions picked up. At this point, probably about 5-7 minutes apart. Got stressed, went downstairs, my sisters came, we said bye to the girls, and off to the hospital we were. We left the house at 6:30am and were stuck in traffic (story of my LIFE!) and got to the hospital around 7:30am. It's normally a 20-minute drive.

On the way, I was still contracting regularly, but it wasn't bad. I was texting back and forth with a few people, so that just tells ya the pain wasn't crazy.

As we parked, (after an hour in traffic) it took me about 2-3 minutes to walk maybe 200 feet, stopping 2 times to breathe through contractions. LOL!

We got upstairs to triage, checked in, and of course they made us fill out this stupid form for the 3rd time, blah, blah. Finally, after about 10 minutes, the triage nurse called me back while Steve had to wait in the waiting room while I got situated in a bed. As she called me, we literally stood in the doorway, waiting for my contraction to pass. The nurse sent me to the restroom to change into a gown, and I had to work through 2 more contractions. At this point, she became irritated, probably thinking I am exaggerating the pain. *Rolls eyes* She rushed me and said that I needed to make it quick, so I can get connected to the monitors, because she's afraid something may be wrong with baby if I'm really contracting as often. Ok, thanks for the scare.

So, at this point it's about 7:55am (yes, it took that long to change and get to my bed...I was hurting!) I got to my bed, she waited while I had a couple more contractions back to back, and she hooked me up to the monitors, asked 21 questions, then finally let Steve in. This is approx. 8:10am.

The triage OB came in around 8:20, checked me to make sure my membrane ruptured. Both him and the nurse said "Yep, it's your water!" OB goes: "3cm, 100%, -1 station, and we see hair!" It's about 8:25am right now and the nurse gave me an IV cath as she had to do blood work. Again, she got annoyed waiting for contractions to pass. I kept the IV cath in just in case I wanted pain meds, though I planned an unmediated/no epidural birth. The nurse said if I am not picked up by 9:15 to be taken into my L&D room, she will hook me back up to the monitors to check on baby.

At 9:30-ish, my L&D nurse finally came and picked me up. Of course waiting through contractions, we made it to the room around 9:40am. I got situated in bed while I had contractions of top of each other, with maybe 10 seconds in between, IF that.

I labored some more as Steve hugged me around the shoulders and we swayed side to side while I was also breathing through contractions. He was so amazing and I don't think I could've done this without him. He only left one time to use the restroom, and was by my side, literally embracing me in his arms the entire remainder of the time.

Steve asked the L&D nurse to check me but she said she rather not, because my water had broken. OK FINE! Lol She left and Steve and I continued to work through the contractions. Did I mention he was absolutely amazing?! :)

Right now, it's approx. 10:10am. I caved and asked for pain meds. The nurse came in with a bag of fluids, saying I had to have fluids with pain meds. However, she forgot a saline syringe so she stepped out to get it. I felt a contraction come on and told Steve to hold me (hug me). After this contraction, I told him I had to push! He said, "No, you can't push," thinking that I'm nowhere close to 10cm. Honestly, neither did I, but my body pushed on its own. He ran out to get the nurse (no, she still wasn't back with the saline flush). He said that as he walked back in the room, he saw Lila's head. The nurse rushed in with a student, and literally yelled at the student to go get my midwife. The student said she paged her, and the nurse responded "NO! GO GRAB HER NOW!" LOL

We now have a team of 7 nurses, plus the student and my midwife in the room, of which none got to scrub or put on gowns. They barely put on gloves! I was screaming my head off as my body pushed on its own. Three SUPER QUICK pushes and 3 minutes later, Lila was out. No time to disassemble the bed either and pull out the stirrups. How hectic! LOL

20 inches long

Steve got to catch her, though he didn't plan on it. The midwife clamped the cord and Steve cut it.

I finished the afterbirth and the midwife explained to me that I has an extremely small outer tear that wouldn't take even one stitch, and gave me the option to let it heal on its own, or "stitch me up." I chose to leave it alone.

So, I got what I wanted mostly (I wanted to labor in the tub and wanted a mirror to see the birth). I didn't think I could do it. My unmediated/no epidural birth. It was the most amazing experience.

I included a the "time stamps" cuz from the time I got into bed at triage at 3cm, to baby it was just about 2 hours.

To add, my best friend came to visit just as we got settled into our postpartum room and she asked for me by name. All the nursed on the floor knew who she was talking about and didn't even bother looking up what room I'm in lol. Every nurse on the floor was in my room as I delivered. They literally had "all hands on deck"

@kristinabooth, I feel as if I never gave birth. The complete opposite from my first daughter... I had an epidural and put in. Labored for 10 hours. It was a nightmare, hence my decision and strong will to go natural this time 😊

@eva0718, awwww thank you for your kid words. It was truly an event I will never forget and will live to tell. I am very proud of Steve, whom welcomed his first daughter 13 years ago via scheduled c-section and did not know a darn thing about natural birth/labor.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

So over this feeling! Ever since I've had ds, OH and I have fought my mother on not wanting to give ds a dummy just cause we don't like them and find he self soothes. For the past three times my mother has had him, she has gone against our rule and given him a dummy and of course I spoke to her about it (that's all my knowledge on how many times she's done it). On Sunday we celebrated my stepfathers birthday and due to OH working I had to do it alone which isn't the thing that bothered me. The thing that bothered me was no matter what I said regarding ds I wasn't listened to. I told my mother to sit behind ds if she was going to sit him up on the floor as he hasn't got the whole balance thing down pact but she didn't and then ds falls and starts crying cause he hurt himself, I picked him up and my mother just came and took him off me! I told her he can't forward face yet as he is below the shoulder line in order to forward face but they did anyway. I get it's her first grandchild and she's excited but I never got to share the news about ds's first tooth or his first attempt at crawling to the family because she already done it. Yes I know, I probably sound petty asf! I had to repeatedly ask my mother to take me and ds home as he was tired and close to the over tired stage. On the way home ds fell asleep, luckily I was sitting beside him and looked at him cause he had fallen asleep and had his head facing down so I quickly grabbed his head and held it up till we got home.

Checked in at 4am february 1st.. started my pitocin drip at 5. I was 3cm dilated when i checked in. Things were progressing pretty slowly until my doctor broke my water at 7 am. I got my epidural done when i was 7 cm dilated, my nurse came in to check me and said baby was in plus 1 station. From there it went rather quickly, once my cervix was complete, she did practice pushes with me, i did 3 practice pushes with a few contractions and she said not to practice push anymore because baby was crowning already. She went and got my doctor, 2 real pushes later and baby was out ! I have 2 tears, 6 stitches, and ones a 2nd degree. We got released the next day ! So glad to be home but its very stressful that my daughter isnt adjusting well. Jeremiah wayne havis, born at 10:56 a.m. february 1st, weighing 6 pounds 1 ounce at birth, 19 1/2 inches long. When we checked out he was 5 pounds 14 ounces. Born at 38 weeks 6 days!

You know what's upsetting? I was trying something different (sexually) and it was the most fun I had with my hubby in the 3yrs of marriage...last night I wanted to do it again and he said we would...he said no...I was so upset! I cried, slept on my daughter's bedroom floor for a bit then went back to bed and cried myself to sleep....got my hopes up for nothing! 😔😭

Advice please ? Long story... I'm getting married in April we decided no kids other than our own two and my niece And nephew as would end up more kids that adults and it would Cost so much more plus wanted parents to have a day/night to enjoy themselves. Anyway my "maid of honor" ( hasn't done much to help but cause me stress) has 5 kids her youngest will be around 5 months old she's breastfeeding him and keeps telling me she is gonna try and express ect... but I know she has no intentions of doing that and I worry she's gonna put me on the spot the day before and say he won't take a bottle (cos she wouldn't have tried) so she either can't come or has to bring him. I'm spending a lot of money for her dress, hair make up food ect... so deffo don't wanna be let down. But it's not just her that's got kids the ushers have kids and we said no kids. Now I know it's different as she's feeding him but I dunno what to do!? Do I say she can bring him (if my oh agrees too) or do I say she can't. This all sounds so awful when I read it but there will be two other guests that will have newer baby's than that coming and they arnt bringing them. The biggest thing is she's just not talking to me about any of this she's ignoring my messages and not making contact with me. But she's spoken to a friend about it who told her to talk to me and be honest about it all! Torn tbh as she's already not coming on my hen but still hasn't told me this!!! If she just came to me and said look I'm feeding my baby I don't wanna bottle feed him so either he comes or I can't I'd be happier she's being honest rather than dragging it out making out she gonna try and express. I don't expect her to I said it's down to her it's her baby. May I add that we fell out a while ago as she wasn't bothering with me ect any way we made up and I asked her be part of the wedding again so she could have said then I can but il have a baby then, but she didn't she just said it will be fine il sort out. So stressed ?
