You'll make milk as long as there is a demand for it. Milk productions is about supply and demand so the more demand (nursing or pumping) there is the more supply you'll make to accommodate the demand. That's why the BEST thing to do until a supply is established (around 6-8 weeks pp) is to nurse on demand for as long as baby wants. That means don't worry about getting baby on a schedule cause that can hurt your supply in the long run

That's true!! Wow I didn't even know how long we were able to supply for I have so much to learn @californiahaley

Small steps are great that's what I did and we're almost to 14 months. It's also good to know (which lots of people don't) that even if you don't make enough to exclusively nurse (which isn't as common as people would have you believe if you nurse on demand) that every drop counts. Your body will produce the same amount of anti bodies per day wether it's in 2oz or 20oz so even if you have to supplement a little any breast milk is better then no breastmilk.

@californiahaley, thank you!
Sorry, thought it said how long DID you. Anyways, if I were you I would make goals, like 3 months, then 6 months and so on and just try your hardest to meet those goals.

In the USA the average weaning age is 3-6 months due to mothers going back to work. The average weaning age throughout the world is 4-7 years. Generally children lose the ability to suckle around age 7

The world health organization recommends 2 year minimum and how ever long is mutually wanted by mother and child after that. You can exclusively breastfeed for the first year before starting solids if you wish. Breast milk never loses its nutritional value no matter what age the child if

My goal was 6 months. He's now 15 months lol. He just nurses at nap time and bedtime now though compared to his crazy newborn cluster feeding lol 😂 it's really whatever feels right for you and your babe! It's an amazing bond with amazing benefits for you both ❤️

as long as you can or want. I just had to stop due to low supply. 4 1/2 months strong but I wish I could have gone longer.
