any moms out there that are breastfeeding and have enjoyed a few drinks how does the pump and dump work ? mother is coming in town next week and would love to have a drink with her before she leaves but very unsure
Do I have to pump and dump after drinking an alcoholic beverage?
As alcohol leaves the bloodstream, it leaves the breastmilk. Since alcohol is not "trapped" in breastmilk (it returns to the bloodstream as mother's blood alcohol level declines), pumping and dumping will not remove it. Pumping and dumping, drinking a lot of water, resting, or drinking coffee will not speed up the rate of the elimination of alcohol from your body. ссылка
just wait a few hours after your last drink there is no need to pump and dump. my Dr and los have always told me to just wait.
What @klachappelle said! ^ One drink isn't going to affect your breast milk. And you could always feed right before, have an already pumped bottle, and when baby gets hungry give lo the pumped bottle! As long as you don't do it all the time, it's perfectly fine!
I've done it before. I have had one glass of wine or a Twisted Tea and then a few hours later nursed my daughter. If you aren't buzzed then neither is your milk. I never used the test strips, if I had to question it then I would feed her milk I had stashed away.
Walmart and babies r us both sale strips you can put drops of the milk on to test before nursing
I always pump before I go have drinks so if I plan on going to have drinks at night I try to pump at least 4 times before then then after my drink I pump again and test the milk with the test strips, and then their it out and pump again then test until it's clear that way my son has milk stored from me pumping before I drink
I'd like to know this to @klachappelle it doesn't go to baby? that would worry me
thanks ladies ! this was very helpful
