I'd think the baby would be malnourished more than anything if the bm was diluted a lot.

Yes they do. I find it hard to believe they didn't know WIC existed or that they couldn't call their child's pediatrician and ask for help. This didn't have to happen.
I agree @kacey @queendavis if you don't have access to the internet to read up on things I can see how one wouldn't know the dangers of water for baby. She probably did the whole ignorance is bliss thing which clearly bit her hard in the ass. So I don't know how innocent she really is bc I think when it comes to your child if you r unsure u ask questions. @spudssmommie

such a sad story I give her props for trying to breastfeed. I also never knew a baby could get water intoxication. hopefully they won't get charged with murder.
I've read a lot of articles about this an she said in one that she didn't know the baby could get water intoxication from mixing it with BM
she didn't think mixing water with breast milk would kill the baby. Who the hell thinks "Oh my baby is gonna get water intoxication from a little bit of water." She didn't know that it was possible for that to even happen hence having breast milk. I doubt it was a lot of water. It was an accident and hopefully she knows now that she can't do it.
I feel like it's common sense too. Mixing BM with water would never even cross my mind. Idk though for some reason I just don't feel like she was intentionally harming her baby. I feel like being charged with murder is a bit much.
A baby goes through a lot of cans. and it's $25 - $30 dollars a can depending on what you get because of the wide variety of them. And my brother first kid had to have bm diluted a little with water and had to be put on a water diet when he was born because he was a really overweight baby.
I'm sure in her mind she knew there were other options. Shit I would be asking family and friend to help me buy formula if I needed it and truly couldn't afford it. There's also churches that give formula away for free. I just don't think she was intentionally trying to harm her baby.
@kelseys, i think it just depends on what state you live in. they just made it harder for people in washington because now if anyone helps with any of your bills then you have to include their income. you could lie and not include them but if you get caught your sol. its sad what happened to this baby though especially because there is so many outreach programs for parents.
and if they really had no other option, then they should've gave the baby to the police/fire department or adoption.
@lilithnight, nobody said everyone gets approved. "JUST ABOUT everyone gets approved" so yea obviously some people aren't approved.

I dont qualify for wic. so not EVERYONE gets approved.
No one told me not to mix water with breast milk before I left the hospital. I don't think that's something they tell you unless you take a BFing class. I obviously wouldn't do that but just saying I really don't think they knew it could harm their child. I had no idea water intoxication was even a thing. I mean cmon its water, who would think it could be harmful? I really believe it was an honest mistake and I feel terrible for them. And about being on WIC, I'm sure they knew about WIC but they could've gotten denied. I know lots of people who could really use WIC and got denied.
@spudssmommie, every wic office around me that I went to denied me until I have the baby. I know lots of people who got wic while pregnant and I've went to the same places but got denied til I have the baby
depends on what state you live in, I've seen women turned down in MD
@kacey I got WIC while I was pregnant... And I've never seen anyone turned down. Idk about the murder charges I'm sure she feels horrible but I seriously feel she knew she had other options.
Pretty much everyone is approved for Wic but honestly not all hospitals give you information like that, most of then ask you if your have questions. maybe they honestly didn't know. I feel bad for them, I don't think they deserve murder charges....
@kelseys, I've seen a lot of people denied wic at the health department where I live. Not everyone can get it. I have to wait til I have my baby to get it and can't have it while pregnant. It could be different in other states or whatever but where I live you have to meet certain requirements to get it
I think they're just saying they didn't know. I mean have you ever heard of mixing water with breastmilk? NO. This is common sense and stuff that the hospital makes sure you know and if she needed help then she should've asked questions. they offer a social worker to come in before you leave the hospital.

They couldn't afford formula and thought that it would basically supplement the Milk since she wasn't pumping enough. They really didn't know and it's so sad they're being charged with murder :(
