I need a little advice ladies with pets! I've only had my ferret for a few months now and if I knew that I'd get pregnant anytime soon I would have held off on getting him. The only thing I'm concerned about is cleaning him and his cage. Are there any risks towards myself or my unborn? I'm already attached but I don't want to risk myself or baby, What should I do?

So long as the ferret does not stay near the child because it's urine is actually worse then that of a cats you should have no problems. I'd ask your doc and a vet what they think though.

I would ask your doctor/vet cause if its pee is worse then a cats they might have recommendations for you to follow.. I know I was told from the start of my pregnancy when I had a kitty to NOT clean there area and stay away from the urine. @mommy3

it takes 24hours for bactaria to become harm full from the urine n poop so if you clean it every day it wont harm you or your baby at less that what the doc told me

its the poop you dont want to touch. it can carry toxoplasmosis. so as long as you dont clean its cage or if you do wear gloves then you are fine.

Thanks ladies, very helpful words. I thought about getting rid of him but that would just break my heart. I always use gloves when cleaning up after him and I clean his cage every other day. I will check with my doctor though just to make sure that I can keep him because I hardly have the help with caring for him and most ppl are afraid of him.
