I know they test you for HIV .. gonorrhea && other STDS when you get pregnant. But is herpes one of them?

yeah. herpes can hurt the baby if you have it and have an outbreak during birth

you can't test for herpes unless you have an open sore....I kno this unfortunately because in high school I contracted it from my cheating high school sweetheart... so if you have a sore you are worried about then you can tell your doctor to test for it. @sexii_diiva @kaylhunt2 and its not going to hurt the baby.... it just means the baby could contract the virus during vaginal delivery if you have a breakout during labor.

as a RN @mdomke22 I will tell you that herpes can have a huge impact on birth and can also harm the baby. Newborn infants can become infected with herpes virus,in the uterus, Passing through the birth canal , or Right after birth from being kissed or having other contact with someone who has herpes mouth sores, If the mother has an active outbreak genital herpes at the time of delivery, the baby is more likely to become infected during birth. but the problem is som moms live with it for so long so some mothers may not know they have herpes sores inside the vagina.Some women have had herpes infections in the past, but are not aware of it, and may pass the virus to their baby.

Herpes may only appear as a skin infection. Small, fluid-filled blisters . These blisters break, crust over, and finally heal.Herpes infection may also spread throughout the body. This is called disseminated herpes. @marushka22 but the doctors won't do a vaginal birth if you have an outbreak during delivery to protect the baby from that specifically. my doctor has gone thru everything with me...and not once did they tell me she could get it while in the uterus. and for the type with no blisters how is that spread from person to person?

thats like the very least thing that could happen.... and thats for the people who dont take care of the situation it will start having outbreaks run all the way up tge vag wall and into the uterus!!!! but they usually prescribe some meds a few weeks before baby gets here they also put a medicated cream on every newborns eyes just as a precaution

Yea my doctor is putting me on the meds i normally take when i do have an outbreak to take once a day for the last month until I deliver. omg I couldn't imagine letting a breakout go that long....oh ok so that's what that cream on their eyes is for! @marushka22

@mdomke22 yea..I'm worried about that part.. but not me having it.. but no I don't.. I didn't know their were diffent strands. I just assumed it was genital herpes.. I remember she said the Dr said she could have had it for 2 years && didn't know because symptoms doesn't always show. so their is no way to trace who she got it from

well if she have genital.... even if they shared food drinks or whatever there is really no way for your baby to get it so you wouldn't have to worry about that. but the mouth sores is where they need to watch out and really be careful about. hope it all works out and she can still be god mommy!
