My daughter needs to have tubes in her ears and they said they will be removing just her adenoids but not her tonsils. Anyone else’s kids have this done as well? How is the recovery?
Did they explain why just the adenoids? A T&A together was very common when I had mine done. I wonder if they know more about the function of tonsils and now they only remove what they need to
Yeah. My daughter is very nasally when she talks. She has what they call glue ear. Which is a thick mucus fluid behind the eardrum. It has caused issues for over a year now. Many hearing tests and pressures show that there is a negative vacuum pressure within the ear. Causing a muffled sound and sometimes pain/discomfort. This align with the fact my daughter has never had a runny nose. She commonly also has enlarged lymph nodes. Therefore he believes the adenoids are a large issue. I guess it’s also common for glue ear. She never really has throat or tonsil issues. He said it is a harder recovery and she doesn’t show any signs pointing to needing her tonsils removed. If she were on the line of chronic tonsil issues or it was an issue he would have taken them but she has had maybe 2 infections a year. Only downside is that if it’s an issue later on we will have to do another surgery. Which isn’t ideal but it’s just weighing the pros and cons.
@tiera_shaye, they also believe this is why she has a speech delay. There are certain sounds she can’t differentiate. Because her ears are constantly muffled. She has been in speech therapy since she was very young and we are still having a hard time understanding her all the time. So this is also impeding her learning. Fingers crossed all goes well.
@tiera_shaye, thank you for sharing. I know a little about glue ear. I’ve heard nothing but success stories once the tubes are put in and things are draining properly. I really do hope this helps.
My Twin boy had this done about a year ago, just the tubes. He did well. Super easy and done fast. He pretty much was back to being himself after a few hours he was a little groggy and Moody right after it.
