My daughter expressed concern about having to do a lockdown drill at school this week.

We were just reading before bed and she out of nowhere said that a voice came on the speaker and said lockdown and everyone had to hide by their lockers in the classroom to hide from bad guys.

She was adamant it was real and slightly scared but didn’t say much more. Besides there were bad guys and they had to hide from them.

How would you approach this with her? I don’t want her to be scared. But I feel she should always take it serious in case it were real and not a drill.

I have no advice, but this just brought back memories I forgot existed in my head of school lockdowns or the tornado one. Crazy. I hate that we have to fear school now bc of all of the shootings etc. I especially feel for the kids with anxiety.

I hate these drills. We’re doing ours on Friday. I would just let her know that it’s practice in case of an emergency and that we practice those the same way we practice fire drills each month. A school fire almost never happens, but we need to know what to do if there is one. Same thing with this drill - we just need to be ready to listen to our teacher if there was an emergency.
