Ya know. As a kid I was raised to sort like crazy. Towels, darks, lights, whites etc. As an adult when I moved out I had to use the laundromat for a few years and I didn’t have enough clothes to sort to make even half a load per dark/light/etc. so I started just tossing them all in and honestly nothing bad has ever happened 🤷🏻♀️. Now if we buy new jeans or a dark colored shirt/jacket etc it gets washed alone the first time in case it bleeds then into the mixed laundry like everything else 😬 and I know people will cringe at this. But I was raised right I just was cheap as a 20 year old using a laundromat. Don’t hate 🤣
My husband is super anal so I wash clothes, underwear, towels, and whites all separately. Plus I do a separate load for kiddo and I'll have to add the new baby in there too 🙄. I literally do laundry every day of the week 🥺
For myself husband and my oldest son I separate from pants to shirts and then sock and underwear. I wash his white shirts separately as well. As for my 5 and 8 year old I don’t separate anything it all goes in. Before i used to separate from darks to lights and whites but with hang drying it’s heavy clothes first down to lightest.
I tried the whole tossing everything in and it just doesn't work for me so I have to separate. When mixing whites with other colors the clothes don't seem to come out as bright and you get lint/fuzzies.

Depends on how much whites I have and what it is. It's not much it gets tossed in with the other clothes. I wash jeans 👖 towels separately
