What to do if bitten by a spider or snake?
Tell me all you know about neurotoxin venoms. Doctor is asking questions about bites and I haven’t seen any on her. But her symptoms are similar. Ugh. I know we have spiders (have black widows outside our house , never seen in house) and my snake. But I’m sure she would say if our snake bit her and she said she hasn’t been bit. Our snake is mildly venomous but has never been aggressive. She’s never bit anyone. Poison control will be in contact and the doc told me what I have to watch for. I’m so stressed out.

Does she handle the snake a lot? What kind of snake is it??

@rayofmysunshine, it’s bc your snake doesn’t have to bite to be venomous, it is in the saliva. They don’t have fangs. They don’t bite and usually constrict their pray.

@rayofmysunshine, snakes use their tongues to navigate…..

@rayofmysunshine, saliva gets on the mouth through feeding and feeling around. It’s definitely worth looking into but I would definitely stop letting her handle it and see if symptoms go away. I’m sure you’ll learn more when poison control calls you.

Do you think maybe she got bit by the snake and didn't notice? I'm sure a spider bite would totally hurt tho and she definitely would feel that

I think getting bit would have been noticeable. And spider bites can happen in sleep. But I’ve checked her body. I wash and dry her. And notice everything. I feel horrible right now I missed something

or maybe she doesn't want to say she got bit by the snake because she's afraid u will get rid of the snake ? Either way it is not your fault !! You're a great mom Ray! Do not beat yourself up !

oh man. I didn’t think of that. Ugh we love our snake. I’d be so sad if she got bit by Gracie.
And thank you ❤️😢 it’s hard not knowing and guessing

@rayofmysunshine, I was 10 I was in Girl Scouts matching in a Memorial Day parade . I remember helping hold banner . After the parade I remember my leg being itchy. But being may I assumed it was just a mosquito bite . I woke up the next day my foot was the size of a basket ball and rock hard . I had fever of 104 and I spent the next 6 days in the hospital

oof. That sounds terrible. She hasn’t had anything like that.

I don't know how many venomous indigenous wildlife you have in that area, she could have encountered something out on a hike even. Do you have any toxic plants in your area? Just food for thought. I know nothing of neurotoxin venoms. I live in an area with very few venomous critters.
RayOfMySunShine··
I’ll have to check on plants.
