Does anyone know American history well, really really well? I used to assume that I did. I have been learning about so many interesting things lately that schools should talk about. It is a shame that I have to learn about this in college and that this isn’t something that is really spoken about in elementary schools, Junior and high schools. I learned a lot more about the civil rights movements recently than I ever did in my life. I learned about how Rosa Parks was actually an activist and boycotted giving up the bus seat more than once to fight for equality. That it wasn’t just a one time thing like I grew up thinking that it was. I learned about how bad segregation was, how Mexican Americans and Puerto Rican Americans also had civil rights movements. I also learned about how when slavery ended, African American men weren’t 100% freed because a lot of people used the excuse that they did something illegal just to have them thrown in jail.

Growing up I feel like schools are only interested in talking more about WW2, the Great Depression etc. When WW2 is talked about, you never hear anything about the Navajo code talkers. You have to dig deeper to find out about that. I have to look into the archives. That is what I feel like lol. When it comes to history, we are only getting the surface of the topic but not the full picture of it. I love learning about history.
