My parents have lost their ever loving minds. My dad recently retired last week and they want to celebrate...by going to FUCKING JAMAICA. They get back right before Easter and I was planning to see them since up until now they've been apart of our bubble but forget that.
I can hear the tears from my mother now, and how I'm choosing my in-laws over them from my dad🙄😑...I'm just going to vent now and say "fuck off" I've been telling them for MONTHS that I'm starting Ivf and I cannot contract covid-19 during the process or it gets cancelled. They keeping forgetting which pisses me off enough but this is the last straw...so do I tell them over the phone that they will likely not be seeing us until May or do I write a letter 🤔

They could travel and not get COVID? Most countries require a negative test to re-enter the United States. Cant you just make it clear to them that they’ll need to get a PCR test / quarantine prior to coming?

@ekko I told my mother the other day that I can help with my niece( my sis is in nursing school and a single mom) if they're gone but I need to know asap since I have appointments...she literally giggled and said I keep forgetting you're doing that 😑. I hung up the phone before I cussed her out.

Ugh. That is so frustrating. It’s not like it’s a big deal or anything. 🙄 When I was pregnant I was telling my one sister how I wanted to avoid induction but that it’s advised bc of my diagnosis (GD). She said, “What diagnosis?” As if I hadn’t talked about it with her multiple times. But I got the last laugh, she just got diagnosed with it herself!

Also, I’m back to say that it PISSES me off to no end when people forget important things in my life so I understand your frustration about them forgetting about the ivf/covid issue. I don’t expect people to remember every tiny detail, but if it’s something important to me - especially health wise - then I do expect my family to remember!

Wow, how incredibly frustrating! Have they already booked their trip? Maybe if you remind them about ivf and keeping your bubble especially small during that time they will either reconsider or go after Easter instead? It’s probably best to tell them on the phone so they can hear your tone and know you’re just trying to be cautious for your family and your ivf plans.

I would ask them when they want to do a celebration for your dad's retirement since you won't be able to see them until they have quarantined after they come home and that will be into May with your ivf. Ball in their court.
Covid changes stuff. I am sure they always planned to celebrate his retirement, but they either have to adjust or have consequences for that. You can't risk your kids and an expensive ivf cycle. The meds alone are $6k!

We're celebrating next weekend but I'm just annoyed about the conversation that will come about Easter, especially since we didn't see them for Thanksgiving and didn't celebrate Easter last year....plus let's be honest they're retired they should at least be waiting to be vaccinated to be travelling to another freaking country.

yeah, I would just rip that band aid off and let them know that with ivf and your daughter's health to consider, you won't be seeing them for a while. Tell them to drop off any Easter stuff before they go, make a plan to dye eggs early, whatever your traditions are. Ivf is a full time job with daily injections and all that. If they have to have this trip NOW, it is what it is.
I have a MIL who wants to boo hoo about holidays. I didn't create covid. I'm just trying to survive it with my family. I do everything the experts recommend, I got my vaccine as fast as they would let me. I am unwilling to be sorry that I caved to pressure and let my daughter have health problems because of some selfish boomer. There. i said it.

I would be honest and say since they are traveling, they can not be near you for the duration when they get back for safety. Just simple. They are adults, they choose to risk it then at least they can not be mad when you choose to avoid them for your family’s safety.

That is frustrating. I am so sorry.
