Anybody here EYFS trained? My son can verbally recite the alphabet but i want him to recognize letters, do we start with lower case/letter sounds or capital's and letter names?
Lower case to start as this will help with phonics. I found with the girls we would spend the time in the car (or bath or when we were sat) taking about things that start with certain letters and if we were out and about we would look at road signs and street names and see if we knew any of the letters. We did the same with door numbers for number recognition. If you do it more in play it’s easier and less stressful for all involved! Keep it fun x
Yes I am, both are needed, phonics is more beneficial for later stages to segmentand blend words, so I've always introduceda letter and then the sound within the sentence so for example "this is the letter S which makes the ss sound like in sat, sausages, silly and spam" . The letter K (kay) makes a soft kh sound... I recommend jolly phonics (can access via youtube) and follow the phonics stages (1st letters to be introduced are S A T P I N)
Always lower case. Take a look at the Ruth miskin videos on YouTube
They usually start with lower case and the phonic sound of the letter. There is a good youtube video called jolly phonics where it sings a song for every letter using the phonic sound. Layla will watch it and say the sound of them all. She cant do the alphabet by herself but can copy you xx
I'm not EYFS trained but how do you want him to recognise them? Like A being ay or a being ah and B being bee or buh etc.
Don't know whether schools vary. But my sons school are focusing on lower case letters and sounds as they spell out the words by the way they sound lower case
Not trained but Iv been teaching my daughter one letter at a time A a and the sound, she seems to be picking it up quickly although she's a year older than your child so.... 🤷♀️

So I think my husband has been trying to tell me something without telling me if that makes sense. The reason I say that is cuz there is this chick that would leave us alone and he told me to tell her yesterday that he send me a letter saying he wanted a divorce. But than when I call him back after talking to her. I ask if he really wants to get a divorce and he just laughs and says no I don't. I can't believe you would think that. But it's not the first time he has made me do this with another ...

Hey ladies !! Im backkkk!! Had to take a break for awhile because it felt like i had the weight of the world on my shoulders. Is this normal for a 6 yr old in first grade?
I know that it’s gonna take a little bit of time to perfect the handwriting but he’s writing letters backwards and when I try to correct him he gets mad and just gives up.. it’s going to be something that I bring up to the therapist and to the pediatrician but has anyone else ever dealt with this?
What do you consider sexual assault? **Possible Trigger
Our local college has a kiss cam at the stadium. A person wrote a letter to the editor about 2 women being forced into kissing 2 men they were not at the game with, on the kiss cam as the crowd cheered and considering it sexual assault and also promoting it. What do you consider sexual assault. By the way the person who wrote the letter is a man. He was deeply disturbed by this behavior. The college is now looking at taking the Kiss cam down.
Super thanks everyone! Today I was saying "this is the letter P it sounds like puh puh, like puh puh puppy" so I'm glad I'm on the right lines. I've taken him out of nursery temporarily so want to make sure we are still learning appropriately x
