Question 🤔

Is breastfeeding really an issue for some women like can’t get enough milk? Or is it that you REALLY have to be devoted in bfing?

(This isn’t to anyone or anything like that either. Just really wanna know your thoughts opinions or facts!)

I breastfed my second I tried my first but ... I really didn’t try try like I did for my second because I really wanted to experience that annnddd I had mom guilt with the nurses and doctors coming in with facts on breastfeeding and how it’s so much better. But I’ve never had a problem with supply it was that at first I needed a shield because they wouldn’t latch right because my nipple being small (and kind of flat) and I was good I never pumped either(being a sahm)

There’s so much that goes into answering this question! Every person’s “storage” system is different. Some have a higher storage and some lower. Anxiety also plays a huge part in milk production as it effects your hormones and hormones are what tells your body to start making milk. And then there is the added layer that the baby may have milk transferring issues while mom is completely able to produce.

Here’s a long but informative article on the process:

Yes! I couldn’t produce enough milk no matter what I tried. I saw lactation consultants, switched to a hospital grade breast pump, ate recommended foods, etc.

I was diagnosed with Hypoplasia (insufficient glandular tissue).

I ended up breastfeeding first then giving formula at each feeding for nine months before switching to just formula.

With the right help, support and determination most women can overcome the first weeks of difficulty to successfully Bf long term if they truly want to, but yes, there is a small percentage who physically cannot produce or who have anatomical reasons why bf'ing doesn't work for them.

Yup. I’ve had to work really hard to get it up to a level where I can pump most of what she needs but I still have to supplement here and there. She was losing weight too quickly at first and the doctor recommended supplementing. When she drank that first bottle and fell asleep for a good nap for the very first time in days I cried

Yes it was hard for me to keep it coming. I start off good. I end up losing it.. Me now with the mommy guilty. I am force to give my son formula. He just took the breast milk without spitting up reverse is the formula which is not taking well to at all 😭😭😭

I had no issues with supply with either baby. I actually had an oversupply with my daughter and it was so bad. I’d wake up every night in a puddle of milk on my bed. I had to wake up my daughter every 2-3 hours during the day to nurse because I felt like I was going to explode. My boobs are tiny so it has nothing to do with size. I’m a 34A pre-pregnancy. I nursed her til 2.5 years old. With my son, my supply was more manageable and I made plenty for him. I’m in the process of weaning him right now.

I honestly have no idea how some women have supply issues. I feel like sometimes they are misinformed and think they should be gushing out milk on day 1. That’s completely false. It takes time to build up a supply and no your baby won’t starve. It’s also important not to pump for several weeks because the baby is way more efficient than a pump. I have tons of advice if anyone needs it!

I really wanted to breastfeed my son, but he was tongue tie and the doctors wouldn’t listen to me cause he was not latching at all and just kept telling me to keep trying and at his 2 month appointment they said he was tongue tie. So I was very irritated that they could of fixed the problem when he was born and it would of fixed it but I was drying up by 2 months so I was bummed out about it.

It could be a number of issues. I breastfeed 7/8 kids the reason this last baby was breastfeed ( only a month) was because of my treatment. It stopped my milk from producing.

I produced just enough milk for my baby. As far as I know, your body naturally gives your child exactly what they need. The more they suck, the more you produce.

My right nipple is inverted so kynzleigh had issues latching on that side.

I also ended up with milk stasis (infected clogged duct).

I also had an allergic reaction to pomegranate that almost dried my milk up because I was on zyrtec AND benadryl for 3 days!

It definitely takes alot of dedication and education. I was not informed with my oldest so I thought I wasn't making enough milk.

I breastfed my second until 15 months, even with all those issues I listed above ^.

I only weaned because she was wanting to play then eat okay then eat. So I was like okay. We are done 😂

Also I never responded well to a pump and kynzleigh eefused a bottle... So that was fun

Like my step sons mom just had a baby not too long ago and I was really tryna get her to stay breastfeeding but he was born prematurely and she had him in Puerto Rico and him being in the bici she could only go see him every 2 hours for 30 mins so she had to pump and I think if none of that happened and she did it from the boob it would’ve maybe worked out 🤷🏻‍♀️ i just want women to feel that feeling we get when we breastfeed because it’s undescribable and we all should be able to experience that

I feel very blessed I never had an issue with my supply ! My first needed a little formula just bc the colostrum didn’t seem to hold her over even though they say they get what they need I felt she wasn’t . My second took to breastfeeding right away never had an issue . With my first I breastfeed 18 months , this time 11 months strong I’m so grateful for my supply bc I no so many suffer

I really struggled to produce milk. I’d do power pumping every 2hrs...through the night too...& I’d be lucky to get maybe 5-6oz in 24hrs. Lots of tears. I wish it came as easy to me as it does for some. So I was devoted.

This was me. I really tried so hard. I come from a family if super breastfeeders, like they made plenty of milk until their kids were 3. And I struggled so hard. I cried a lot, too. Thankfully my sisters were very supportive.

@aliciaandray, yeah, for over a month & my son was marked ‘failure to thrive’ bc I wasn’t producing enough. So they suggested power pumping & supplementing with formula. It’s just not easy for some women.

@aliciaandray I tried straight boob and she started to refuse it because she wasn't getting enough and she was frustrated, then I pumped for 7 months until it dried up. I took all the supplements, ate oatmeal, tried all the ways to get my supply up.

But she turned out a-ok. :)

@ksmommyx3, try liquid gold or pump princess from Legendairy milk. Oatmeal didn’t help much for me and the boob bars made my stomach feel gross but these supplements have really helped. I’m a pumper and it’s definitely been a struggle

Yes it’s really an issue for some. I had a breast reduction so I’m not able to produce as much milk as most.

I can see where that comes into play do you pump and put on him on the boob or what?
