Should I Share Disinfectant Wipes with My SIL?
Am I wrong?
My husband is annoyed with me (shocker 🙄). His sil is whining on Facebook about how she can't find disinfectant wipes anywhere. (She's trying to disinfect her house after having covid) He thought he would send some of ours to them. I told him no, she can figure it out herself.
I'm always willing to give to others in need but his brother and sil never go out of their way to help us. If rolls were reserved they sure wouldn't be sending their hard earned Lysol wipes to us. He told me they were family....I told him exactly, during the height of the pandemic last year my sister, my mom, even his mom and I were always checking into see if each other needed anything when we went shopping....I heard crickets from them the entire time 🙄😑.
Sorry but I just don't care that she wants to take this seriously now and try to find things when she should have been better prepared all along.

Honestly, I think I'm fairly prepared, and have not been able to find disinfectant anything for a long long time because people are hoarding them. I feel like, if you can spare it, you should give it to her. That's just my opinion, because I would want someone to do that for me.
I've JUST been able to find spray, that isn't bleach, to clean my home with. And ONCE I found wipes in the store but I offered them to an old man who looked very forlornly at the empty shelves.

It would depend on how many I had in my stash and/or if she was completely out of other supplies. The wipes aren’t really a necessity if she has other spray disinfectants or bleach and paper towels. That being said - if roles were reversed and it was my sister, I would give them the wipes if I had some to spare even if she had been an asshole about covid. It would annoy me to no end but I’d do it.

Depended on if you had any to spare..I'd give them the wipes. I completely understand what you're saying but they are family and..doing good to others is always the right thing even if it wasn't reciprocated first.

There’s other disinfectants she can use. Those wipes aren’t the only cleaning supplies that disinfect so I’m going to be the asshole and say no I wouldn’t give anybody my stuff. I don’t hoard cleaning supplies but I’m not generous like that to just give out things.
I send people deals or i can be on the look out for things they need but I’m not spending money on people I don’t like.
I do help out family tho. I babysit all the time for everyone. I also have given people baby wipes during the beginning of this because I had way too many. I just don’t like sharing cleaning products 🤷♀️

Someone is in need. That person is asking for help.
My brother is the type to not go out of his way to help others. Not out of spite or pettiness, he just, for whatever reason, can't wrap his head around the idea of family/community.
That said, there are moments when he needs help and I help when I can (IF I can), not because I expect a change of heart.
It's the right thing to do. I could see why your husband is annoyed.
While I wouldn't necessarily say you're wrong, it seems like you're not helping because you feel someone should always reciprocate and you know she won't because she never does.
You both have reasons to be annoyed, so maybe weigh out what's more important: helping someone during a pandemic or withholding help because others should give back.

Send her a link to hand sanitizer. Put that shit on some wipes and have at it.

It's just wipes, I think it's kind of petty to not share especially since she has a valid reasoning for wanting some. Giving without expecting anything in return makes you the bigger person.

@leahh @deborahjq ....that's just it and hear me out. I don't feel like I'm being petty. I know my sil and I feel like she's just being lazy. They aren't someone in need. They're an upper middle class family. She could find the stuff on the internet and pay the premium if she wants it.
From my perspective it may sound petty but I'm SO tired of being taken advantage of by my bil and her....she's not getting the damn wipes.
I told my husband she could have a huge jug (like one of those industrial size) of disinfect that I really don't plan on using and he laughed and said nevermind....like if she needs to disinfect that badly she would take it and he would give it 🤷♀️.

You offered and your husband turned it down, so it sounds like you did what you could since he was the go-between in this whole thing.
Honestly, I can totally relate to having an in law like yours lol. It can be annoying.

It seems kind of petty to me. I can see both sides though. Are they wrong for expecting the wipes when they wouldn't do the same if roles were reversed? Kind of...I mean if I got covid, I'd be doing so much more disinfecting than I already am. But you kind of are in the wrong also when you have the extra wipes but don't want to share with them specifically.
At the same time, you don't need* disinfectant wipes, there are other ways you can clean. Sprays? Bleach, or even off brand disinfectant and a paper towel will do the work if you are actually cleaning the areas before hand.

My husband saw the FB post and wanted to offer, they didn't specifically ask. We're a high risk family (my husband has lupus) so I use the wipes constantly. I offered an industrial size disinfect that my husband randomly got one day and he didn't want to volunteer that...so 🤷♀️

I'd give her whatever i could spare without expecting anything in return. I totally see where you're coming from and get why you don't want to do it. But reguardless of whatever your reasoning is, it'll benefit you when you feel like the bigger, generous person after doing it.
