Anyone know how to get through to your family's heads that you don't want to give your son one of the 20 most popular names at the moment? Because they aren't getting it at all. Sister then went "oh i got a unique one", and proceeds to give me the 10th most popular boys name. 😬 Really wish that if they insisted on drowning me with name suggestions they'd listen to what i said about not wanting something too popular. My mom then hit me with "what's wrong with Oliver? Lots of people use Oliver!".....I don't know if they're just ignoring me or just super oblivious, despite me having explained why i don't want a popular name about 6 times now.

My mom insisted on giving me suggestions for both of my kids and I told her no to all of them. We kept our choice a secret until a month before for my daughter and until birth for my son. It’s ultimately your decision.
You know you don't have to listen, right? It's your kiddo. And even if you Google "unique names" millions of people are looking for those too.. they're just trying to help.
@deborahjq I agree. We picked a name and told no one until she was born. I didn't want any input or arguing. My MIL made suggestions and we would just tell her they were pretty names and left it at that.

Just tell them you don’t want suggestions, then.
Maybe the didn’t google the most popular name list? I have no clue what’s popular, I just give suggestions based on what I like lol
Ive asked them more than once to check the most popular list and explained my reasoning. Theyve both said that they will or did check.
This. We ended up picking a somewhat popular name for our youngest. We liked it and agreed on it and only later looked it up. Decided we didn’t need to drop the name we liked so much in order to be more unique

Transgender children
So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. Id go with what deborahjq said but tell them you guys are choosing the name and keeping it a secret that way they don't ask you every 5 mins what the name is that you have picked. 🤣 thats what we did with our first pregnancy because I was scared we would change our name in the hospital. Our last we gave the 2 name we chose but the gender was a secret. ☺
