Probably a touchy subject but im not sure where the lines of medical neglect lie. A coworker of mines 7 year old son has had a fever of at least 100F for the past four days and she wont take him to the doctor. Shes just rubbing him down with more and more essential oils every day, continuing to bring him out and about all the time, and providing no other help to try to lower his fever. She brought him into work this morning(at 6am nonetheless) and the poor kid was lethargic, begging to be taken home, and freezing with his coat on in the lobby. Im not sure if theres grounds to call in to CPS and have them look into it or not, multiple coworkers and myself are very concerned for the kid, his mother refuses to even give him tylenol. Shes giving him exclusively essential oils, even making him drink them in tea, and she is VERY proud of it, shes told every single one of us that she has not and will not be taking him to a doctor or giving him any kind of medicine. Tomorrow is 5 days of him having a fever and it hasnt gone down, she says its fine and it will go away with the oils, but shes been upping the oils every day and this morning his fever was 101 when she tested him with the no touch thermometer at work.
5 days as an adult when you're sick feels like forever, imagine what it feels like for a child?
Taking her aside might've been the way to do it the first or second day when she made it clear essential oils were her go to.
But this is nearly a week, at this point.
What you're seeing is only a small window into her neglect. Imagine what he must be going through at home? What is she feeding him? How dehydrated must he be at this point? Does she wake him up at night to give him more essential oils?
He needs an adult to advocate for him. His mother clearly isnt doing it. Do him a favour and help him out.
