Hello ladies
Does someone here know about car insurance in case I’ve damaged someone’s car? It’s a scratch and the paint needs to be painted again. Does it effect my no claim bonus? I’ve had no claim bonus for nearly two years. I passed my driving test 8 months ago
Yes it will be classed as a claim also im not sure they can give u that sort of info about next years premiums
Do you think it’s better to pay the cost of fixing the paint to the other driver personally? X
@liya.bowie no I dont think it does i think you would be ok to call them and ask. Also if you do pay for her car to be fixed make sure you keep receipts and proof of payment. If shes being funny about where she wants it done ask her what the name of the place is and you will pay them directly xx
@kelsey234, thanks for your reply. This situation has been stressful so I appreciate your comment. I’ve called the insurance company and reported about the accident without making a claim. My husband’s friend has a garage and he could fix it for her, for us it will cost very little. But she says she knows a garage as well and wants to fix her car there. I just think she wants money and will spend it on something else. We will see what she replied tomorrow xx
@liya.bowie no I wouldn't pay her directly I'd ask for the garage that she wants to use and then pay them when need be and keep all the receipts. (If it's not too expensive).
If she continues to be awkward then definitely consider going through the insurance xx
@liya.bowie also definitely work out how much extra insurance you'll be paying a month and then your excess and if that's more than paying for the paint I'd just pay for the car to be fixed myself xx
Find a car shop by you, avoid garages because they'll charge more. Just one of these independent shops, they'll colour match the car and can make it up for you in a pen, little pot etc (if they're willing to touch it up themselves obviously)
It can be proper expensive for a tiny bit of paint. Definitely try to sort it directly and not through your insurance otherwise it will be more costly in the long run. Hope you can get it sorted and also I don't think you have no claims yet if it was learner's I didn't think it was covered or worked like that otherwise everybody would do tha. Xx
@liya.bowie shouldnt be no more than 300 which is very expensive for such a tiny bit of damage. My brother in law done the same thing and it cost him 300. So I'd say between 150-300 max xx
I'd ask how much it's going to be to get the car painted, it might be worth you paying that directly to them rather than losing your no claims xx
@kelsey234, I need to know the price to get the other person’s car painted. This is a photo of her car. I don’t care about my car as it’s old and there are a lot of scratches already xx
@liya.bowie I cant see that being anymore than £150 to get repaired it's not even bad xx
Also whilst the claim is going through whilst awaiting the outcome if you have to renew within that time they may also put it down as a temporary measure until the outcome of the claim has been sorted
I had an insurance as a learner driver since March 2019, and then I passed my test in Feb 2020
@liya.bowie ahh ok yeah makes sense now....do you still earn no claims on that type of insurance cover
@3kidsandkat, yes, I think you still earn no claims on that type of insurance. Thanks very much for your replies
You can buy scratch remover for under a tenner !
