I seen this question on another post in a mom group & I just wanted to know everyone’s opinions on it or how you would go about it... your child comes to you at let’s say 15 & asks you about having sex, would you tell them they’d have to wait until they were grown to do anything end of story OR would you talk to them about birth control & using protection hoping they’d wait but if it were to happen now then at least they’re using protection & came to you about it first?

Birth control for sure. If a kid wants to have sex, they’ll find a way. I want my kids to be open and honest about it and know they can come to me. My mom wouldn’t let me start dating until I saw a gynecologist and got on birth control. She said she wasn’t encouraging me to have sex, but knew things could happen. Probably the best decision she ever made for me because I know I would’ve slipped up and not been responsible.

I would want my girls to know they can come to me for anything ! At any age at any time of the day . So i would want them to be honest with me I wouldn’t want to think of my little girls having sex but I would want them to be safe and also know that no means no and don’t get pressured into anything they don’t feel comfortable with

I talked to all my girls at 13 and they know about condoms and birth control and that I'd prefer they wait till they're older but I'm realistic and know that's not always the case. If one of them came to me amd wanted birth control we would go to the gynecologist and get a full check up and birth control. I'm hoping when they're ready they do come to me.

Tell them about birth control. You can’t control anyone. Even your kids. They WILL find ways. I remember I got myself on birth control at 16 and my mom lost it on me. I didn’t get why. I ended up getting pregnant at 19. If my parents had an open line of communication, I would’ve felt move comfortable going to her for birth control.

What's It To You?

I'd talk to them about everything. Urge them to let me know before anything happens so we can take proper precautions and let them know I'll be there for them no matter what. It's always best to be open and there for them so they know they have someone to rely on.

Good question! I will probably opt for birth control for my daughter because if she asks about sex then I’m sure that means she’s thinking of doing it soon. I don’t want her to be a teen mom and I’d rather that she knows her options and be careful. I’m really hoping I can keep her away from boys until she’s 18 but obviously girls are exploring much younger these days so we’ll see what happens.

I'd do both. Talk to them and give them the knowledge about how to do it safely and then talk to them about the importance of waiting.

100% take that as my opportunity to have the sexual responsibility, consent and all those good talks.

My mom always told me to wait until I was 18 to have sex and we didn’t really talk about “safe sex” at all. It was about 1-2 months after I turned 18 that I had sex for the first time. I’ll teach my kids about safe sex and let them know they can always come to me no matter the age. Just because you wait until a certain age doesn’t make it mean any more

This!!! Thank you!!!! I hate that in my family your virginity is looked at like a golden card, it makes no sense to me. I 100% rather educate my child and hope they wait until they’re ready.

I would hope my children would wait but I would actually prefer if they asked me. I would talk to them about being safe and trying to wait if they could and ask them why they feel it’s really worth it for the person they would want to lose their virginity to? I would also show them Std pictures and talk about what each one does. Hopefully that would work on holding them off for a long time. 😂🤣

Uhhhh

I'd talk to them about both. I want them to know that sometimes you might think you love someone but you really don't. I wish I had waited for my husband I really do. I'm not going to lie to them and tell them to wait for marriage when I didn't myself 🤷🏼‍♀️. I also want them to be safe if they decide to though as well.

Def talk about birth control.

There’s no way I’d leave my child unprotected. Even though I wouldn’t want them having sex that early I’d rather them be prepared

I would definitely have a talk with them. Go over birth control and using protection. I’d let them know the responsibility that comes with being sexually active and also the emotional impact it can have. I want them to know they can come to me for anything. We all know if they want to have sex they will and I don’t want them to go out there with only their friends advice. I would encourage them to wait but also make sure they are ready if it does happen.

I would talk to them about all the options and explain everything to them although I’d do this way before 15 and before they even ask. I’ll tell them they can always come to me for anything and always tell me the truth. But I would also encourage them not to act right away to seriously stop and think about it because your virginity is not something you can ever take back. I wish I would have waited and I would explain what I went through so that maybe they understand.
