I think it’s safe to say that Mila’s heart murmur wasn’t causing her weight gain issue. Since the 1st, I’ve been giving her 1-2 oz of formula after breastfeeding her and she went from 8 lbs 6 oz to 9 lbs 4 oz in 2 days. 😳 now, I’ve just got to see if I can make it to where I can give her enough calories on breastmilk alone. We know she’s getting enough milk from me to fill her tummy bc she was weighed before and after nursing.

If anyone has tips on how to up the fat/calorie content in my breastmilk, lay it on me.

Are you feeding her from both sides during a feed? If so, you may want to try feeding her from the first side longer than usual or just stick to one side per feed. The milk that comes later in the feed is fattier than the milk that comes out in the beginning of a feed. Hope that makes sense.

Yes, I do both sides. I let her go as long as she wants. Her dr told me to only go 5 min on both sides but it takes her about 7-10 min to finish a side. I pump as well and I do that for about 15 min on each side but I’ve never seen the fat in my milk like I did with my son.

Stop feeding her from a new breast at the start of each feed.

Start on breast A. And end on breast B. Next feed, start on breast B and end on breast A. Then start on A and end on B. Always start on the one you ended on the last feed. If you have a hard time remembering, write it down or you can out a clip/hairtye, or something on the bra strap of the side you ended on. This will allow her to get more Foremilk. Also, please read the book:

Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to look into it!!

My daughter didn’t gain a single ounce or inch from 2 weeks old until today (she’ll be 2 months tomorrow). So scary and stressful. I would’ve never known bc she’s such a content and happy baby.

So she is getting her tummy full just not the density of the hindmilk. Poor baby! Keep up the great job though. You've got this. Not your fault. If baby isn't unhappy then you could not have known. You can do this!!!! I'm here if you need any more help. Remember to eat well and keep taking your prenatal vitamins!!! Crucially important for both you and your baby.

Right! I had no clue she wasn’t gaining. But they weighed her before and after nursing and she gained 3 oz after a feed so there’s no doubt she’s getting enough milk. And now, it’s hard to get her to eat the formula on top of nursing her lol

I definitely haven’t been eating as good as I could be 😬 I could use my toddler as an excuse 😂 but I’m working on eating better. Haha

I'm really thinking of becoming an LC myself. I have had one traumatic situation and one normal one. Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world but it doesn't come naturally. It's a learned experience for both baby and mommy. We need to support one another through this tough Mommy Journey. Have a great night and let me know if I can help in any way with advice. 🙂

It’s really hard to find a good one. The one that “helped” me with my first would just huff and puff the whole time. I ended up switching to formula completely at 4 months bc he was losing weight. But now looking back on it, I probably had the same issues I do now but didn’t have any support so I just gave up. I refuse to do that again.

Thank you so much for your advice!

I wanted to do one of these before our breastfeeding journey ended. I have a feeling it’s soon 😔 since her dr has us giving her formula to give her more calories, I’m finding it difficult to give her breastmilk as well. She gets full off of me alone so she doesn’t want the formula if I breastfeed her first. And if I give her formula first, she doesn’t want the breastmilk. I’ve been alternating feedings but that’s just caused my supply to drop. She’s getting chunky, though. That’s all I care about, really.

So my cute baby girl is way underweight. We went to her doctors yesterday and found out she is way under the curve for her weight. She's 5 months old and only 9.? lbs. She was 7.8lbs when she was born. She's exclusively breast fed. Now I am having to add formula to my breast milk to give her extra calories. She's great on her height and head growth. But her weight is so low. She is hitting all her milestones and is very playful and aware she just needs more calories I guess. I feel kindof bad but I also feel good because we've breastfed for 5 months now and I still produce plenty enough for her. I'm plumping about 7 oz in a session and she eats 2-4 oz at a time. Usually more around 4 oz. I guess I just wanted to talk about it. Do you think if I ate more calories or more fatty food she would get more of that in her milk. They've suggested I start taking prenatals to add more to my milk.
