So the kids will be 4 in June, this coming Fall they should go to PreK then next year Kindergarten. What if I wanted them to do 2 years of PreK and then start Kinder a year later than they actually should....is that a thing? Would I be able to do 2 years of preK or they dont let you do that? Has anyone "held" their kids back in preK?! LOL
Sorry to hijack your post. I can’t stand when people give education advice that goes against best practice and awareness of child development. I would suggest talking with your pre-k teacher about kindergarten readiness. What is the cut off date in your state? (When will they have to be 5 by to start?) Take into consideration how old they will be when that cutoff date passes. Kids who are 5y10m tend to perform much better than kids who are 5y1m, generally speaking. I’m guessing your kids were born early being triplets. Consider how early they were born and how that compares to others their age. Lots of things to consider, but definitely seek the advice of their teacher now and attend your elementary school’s parent orientation. They will discuss what they expect kids to know and how the day is structured. That will give you a better idea of whether your kids will be ready or not. 😊 Good luck & feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
Many parents have made this decision. My school principal is considering doing this for her son. Pp doesn’t work in elementary education so I would not follow her advice. Many kids are not kindergarten ready and struggle immensely. Only you know what’s best for your kids, but just know that it’s not unheard of. Due to cutoffs here, my son will be a few months shy of 6 when he starts. As an educator, I am so thankful!
I have dipped my feet into teaching, probably why I even thought of this. I haven't met anyone that's held back a child and started them at the age cut off. I guess my question should be if it is just that easy to say I want them to repeat preK? We go for testing next Friday so I was going to bring it up and didn't want to be looked at like I have horns growing out of my head and odd for wanting to request this. Academically/ socially they are fine, a main reason is maturity and future decisions....along with self esteem....I mean I could make a list of reasons.
@scidg3, You can definitely say you want them to wait another year and do more pre-k. We have lots of parents who do that. You’re in the driver’s seat. No one can force you to enroll them in kindergarten. :) I don’t believe we need to whisk children off to school & rush childhood. Kindergarten is rigorous. So much has changed since No Child Left Behind and the new standards. The kindergarten we went to no longer exists. My advice to all of my friends is: if you have hesitations, hold off a year.
I think if the child is not ready then it can be suggested but I’ve never heard of that tbh
Pre-K does not learn much as it is more for social skills and getting to know school
Many kids are not ready in kindergarten but they get ready and working at home with the child helps as well
my kids are 3 years old, but they are not in Kindergarten. They are in a MMO program right now.

Also consider kids change as they age , so think about how your kids may feel if they see younger let’s say 3 year old in a class they may feel like they are with babies since they will be 4 soon

In the early ages I dont think kids pay attention to age, a friend is a friend. I remember in high school it was cool to have that older friend that could drive before me! We did question the immature 16 year old still in 8th grade who couldn't drive because he was failing miserably! They have one another over anyone else and that bond as their mother I can guarantee you is STRONG. In the end, once they are grown, I hope they will agree that it was the right decision. One I wish I had.
I did! My daughter was intellectually ready but not emotionally at all. She was in early intervention when she was little for speech and behaviors as the result of not hearing. although she was "caught up" by 4.5 when she was eligible to be enrolled in kindergarten I didn't want her to be overwhelmed. Kindergarten is no joke here in the Northeast. It's more like first grade really. My daughter has a November bday and to be eligible for Pre-K she had to be 3 by August of that year which she was her first year she turned 4 by November ('18). She turned 5 this past November ('19). the cut off for kindergarten is 5 by December of the enrollment year ( which is late by most standards) but this made it so my daughter could go either Pre-K or kindergarten. She'll always be the oldest in her class and this extra year has given her plenty of time to learn more Pre-K criteria and begin kindergarten material (she's learning sight words at school now) and I plan to teach her to read this summer. In my opinion you might not see the benefits of the extra Pre-K year until the child gets older like (middle/high school) but I don't regret it one bit.
Is that a decision you made or teachers and the school made? As of now we have no interventions with any of them. My intentions are for their future, once they are in high school, graduating, making adult decisions....honestly I wish I was held back at some point, I think it would have done wonders for me. I probably wouldn't have like it at the time but damn!
@scidg3 Her dad and I decided. Our intentions were also for the future as well. We're both November babies as well and with what the caught off dates being what they were in the 90s we were basically six going into kindergarten. We were always the oldest in the class and had more maturity going off to college. The extra year now certainly is a plus for her emotionally but we were really thinking long term when holding her back. The school didn't care either way because the local public school offers Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4.
Transgender children So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are your thoughts on the matter? Do u think the parents are behind this? Idk because I haven't met the parents or children. I just think at 5 it's very young for children to really understand. What do u ladies think?
Hi I am into my 15 week now But since last two days am not having good feeling....I just feel something is wrong inside wid d kid...all my symptoms r too less Morning sickness is gone....Metallic taste of my tounge is also less....and I feel pain in my abdoman twice or thrice which is very minor though What should i do i am very confused Already have gone through 5 scans because of changing gynec Just feel that untill i hear the heartbeat or see my kid i wont b ok....got sleepless nights

You couldn't find a babysitter?! Mommas, do you take your kids with you to run errands and go to mundane appointments? On two separate occasions, a doctors appointment for me and today at a car service appointment, someone has remarked "you couldn't find a babysitter?!" It never crossed my mind to find a babysitter. I take my 2 kids with me just about everywhere. They are well behaved (minus the occasional 3 year old meltdown) and one of them is attached to my boob the majority of the time anyway. Am I the only one? Is that a weird thing to do? Do most moms find babysitters?
Am i the only mom thats not getting dressed up for halloween im just doing the kids this year
